Doesn't seem that long ago you did all this Mark, but time does fly, I think it's over 10 years that I rebuilt my suspension and I think you did yours before I did mine.

Those A arms are well crusty, please tell me you're going to replace those and not weld them up?

Re: Classic Beetle question

Totally different chassis up front on mac strut so you would need to do some major surgery to make that work, not sure what the benefits are either. Red9 do their own conversion kits for front and rear. https://www.red9design.co.uk/type1.htm I'd imagine you can get an off the shelf IRS kit for a swi...

Re: Careful surface rust removal, not Porsche.

I've just concentrated vinegar for rust removal, I purchased 5lt from the local cash and carry, it was something 75% stuff for about £5. You need to be able to submerge it tho, stinks and will wreck your skin if you don't glove up.

I'll be checking my 9's later  This wasn’t supposed to be a Fuch paranoia thread :) Sorry :) Apologies for adding to the thread hijack  Nige - my comments relate specifically to experience with 15in Fuchs - don't know if the problems affect 16in wheels as well ... . TBH, I haven't hear...

Re: Group 4 wheels 7R. Anyone have them?

Don't worry, paranoia was short lived by realising how cold it is in the garage and was soon followed by a bunch of can't be arsed and a mug of tea with a kitkat.

Re: When to change oil on the aircooled flat 6's?

Always hot here, nothing better than oil burnt finger tips!

If you have a front cooler you not getting anything out of that and associated lines whether hot or cold unless you start disconnecting hoses, which can then lead to other issues if they've never been apart for 20+ years.

Re: What do you call this?

Bush for sho! When installing new they usually need reaming with a reamer for a perfect fit/size.

The whole part I would call a cantilever brake arm.

This is a race:
