Re: Fuel tank

Ah, good point, I had assumed it would be black, as in my car currently. Thanks.

Fuel tank

I’m planning to replace the fuel tank in my ‘66 car. I assume the new tank will come painted black - will it want any further painting or protection before installation?

Re: Clutch adjustment

Thanks Keith, I’ll tighten it up. I don’t think the cable has changed, it has been on the car for at least 20 years.

Clutch adjustment

I had a new clutch fitted about 300 miles ago. Towards the end of my last run I had difficulty changing into first and reverse, with gears grinding at low revs. Subsequently with engine and box cold I could select first and reverse (all be it I only tried very gingerly). I’m not clear whether it is ...

Re: What’s the worst car you’ve ever owned?

BMW X3 that my wife ran. She hated it - underpowered 2 litre diesel, poor ride and not well made. I spent plenty maintaining it. When my loved e39 estate was written off I inherited the X3 and also hated it. Wished we had taken it on more than just a dual carriageway when taking it for a test drive,...

Re: Backfire

Thanks Mike. My wife is always looking for an excuse to grub about on the garage floor, she will be delighted to help.

Thanks Louis, I've yet to take a look but that sounds like a good candidate.

Backfire

I'm getting a backfire occasionally on a trailing throttle. The tappers have been checked. Is the cause air ingress somewhere in the exhaust system? What else might be the cause?

+2 for Gerry at Inflex. Has trimmed my '66 912, I'm pleased with the results.

Re: Fuel Pipe

Thanks. I've gone for a standard R6 modern pipe, I don't mind the modern look but I might replace it with the modern braided at some point. I also filled up the tank with Esso 97 octane fuel which I may now stick with.

Re: Fuel Pipe

Thanks Matt. Having had fuel dribbling off the bottom of a fortunately cold engine I've gone for safety over looks and modern pipe it is. I think I'll try and find a non / low ethanol fuel as well (Tesco's standard unleaded may have had it's day for my 912).

Fuel Pipe

I need to replace the flexible fuel pipes in the engine bay, one has just failed. Is there any specific pipe to go for? I've seen the discussions about ethanol in fuel - will any woven exterior 'classic car' pipe be suitable or is there something specific I should be using?
