So its quite amazing how big the 911 has grown to be a 997 & the mirrors had to do the same to look in proportion
So here is the original 70's bullet against my new 997 Outlaw mirrors as an example

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
So, after 18 months in the making all that was left to do was fit to the car
I took off the original mirrors & cleaned the rubber base plates
Then fitted & tested my new replacements

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
I collected the mirror glass from the manufacturer last month. They'd done a superb job. After a lot of information change & getting a Font licence (yes there is such a thing) for the Porsche script font, I had "21st Century Outlaw) lasered into them. This burns off just the silvering from ...

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
Next I commission a specialist Mirror company to make the new glasses, then while they were being made I stripped the mounts from the original 997 glass (held on with tough double sided) & cleaned them up. The then needed re-shaping to support the new circular mirror glass glass1.jpg glass2.JPG ...

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
The motor assemblies were then fitted paying attention to handing and up & down so that the control in the car would match the original mirror movement (left is left, up is up etc) bowl4.JPG After a functional powered up check, the bowls were finally mounted to the cones with 8mm stainless stud ...

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
Next I needed to machine the mirror Bowl sections I'd spun in Stainless steel to accept the 997 Mirror Motor units, first starting with cutting out for the wiring grommet bowl1.JPG Then taking the 997 cast mount bracket and cutting them carefully down to fit inside each bowl bowl2.JPG Then setting u...

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
The process was then repeated for the other mirror to make a matching pair once I'd sussed the first one out
And then check fitted in my actual Stainless Mirrors

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
Next the face was machined into a replica dome profile matching the original 70's mirror end fixing
Next the screw slot was cut by hand using two blades in my hacksaw clamped together
Then finished with swiss files

Re: 21st Century Outlaw 997 Project
Been a bit busy of late with another BIG project that a few select DDKr's know about (to be revealed at NEC this weekend) but thought I should update progress on the 997. So back to business making upsized stainless fixings to hold the mirror bowl to the cone. bolt1.JPG Roughing down some 25m...

Re: Flat 4 engines and back pressure?
Tough crowd tonight
R-R really has nothing to do with it.
The threads about back pressure
Fella makes an unsubstantiated claim (against conventional thought & findings) that an engine can have 2/3rd's of its power lost in the exhaust system and you don't question that?

Re: Flat 4 engines and back pressure?
Okay, let me approach this in another way, now that I’m home from work. The reason I latched on to Ashley’s comment is that it appears to make a mighty claim. Especially if you’re fortunate enough to have seen or worked on the PIII exhaust, you’ll know where I’m coming from when you see how basic it...

Re: Flat 4 engines and back pressure?
Nah, its not just you...
I'm toying with Ashley
But c'mon, who doesn't want to see dyno results showing a "standard" exhaust robbing 100BHP out of a 7.3L V12 ?

Re: Flat 4 engines and back pressure?
Aw, I was hoping to see the "company dyno data" Ashley, showing the 100BHP robbing exhaust
As I said before, its all Twaddle without the data
