Re: '65
Discussions and photos also allowed some kind of assessment of the state of the shell, beyond what I had already seen a few weeks earlier. At this point, from afar, it did look pretty original in the metalwork department. Not much rust. I was assured no festival of bondo, according to paint depth ga...

Re: '65
Not quite sure why I found it interesting, other than the general principle that old 911s are interesting and I had never had a SWB car. Much later a wise man said to me that, if there is a sweet spot in all this, it's probably the SWB 911. Time will tell whether that's true for me. I guess at the m...

Re: '65
Once safely back home, and with the orange car nearing completion (planting in my mind the idea that I would soon be terribly bored without a project) I noticed the ad on the early S forum. And the associated banter thread, during which the price dropped from extremely ambitious to slightly less bon...

Re: '65
Also, if you are a stickler for originality, you might be able to detect one or two questionable cosmetic modifications in the engine bay. It's all gone a bit chrome in there. The sticker on the fan housing says "beware of rocket blast"... Aside from the visual crimes, I noticed that it's ...

Re: '65
So far so good. But the somewhat haphazard yellow respray (much paint in places that paint should not be) and fake Fuchs were not doing it any favours... https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58c0f610d482e969f2bf11d6/1694210055213-NCAEOJBKA2A5M53YCS0O/20170501_202109290_iOS_adj.jpg?format=80...

Re: '65
So this '65 car caught my eye in Southern California. The good points seemed to be as stated in the ad - matching numbers, nice original colour, not as rusty as some. Specifically the rust seemed confined to the front suspension pan, probably from the inside out due to standing water down there. The...

Re: '65
So, what is it, and how did it end up with me? Or, as they say on the tiktok: ** record scratch ** freeze frame ** Yup, that's me. I expect you're wondering how I ended up in this situation.... Well, let's rewind a bit to Los Angeles, pre-COVID. I went to the LA Literature etc show, and some of the ...

Re: '65
Thanks all.
What's the plan? That's an excellent question. I vacillate between completely original and far from it.
Perhaps a little background might help you to help me decide.

Because, it seems, I do not learn... it's time for another resto. This one departed for Envirostrip earlier this week. Let's see what comes back. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58c0f610d482e969f2bf11d6/1694069474442-V7HIRPGSKG8U6LGCJXMG/IMG_6105.jpg?format=800w https://images.squaresp...

Re: Eeee Geee
If I understand correctly, the main issue is that there's zero chance of this (old) car, or any old car, passing the IVA. When you head down that route, you are held to modern standards for pedestrian safety etc. This being the case the only option is to stick with same identity as an old car, get ...

Re: Weird oil leak 71 911s
Injection pumps do leak, even after refurb... worth a close look at every seal on the pump itself. From memory there is an external oil seal on the main shaft (the one driven from the engine via the belt) - I'd probably start there, if all the hoses and their couplings are OK.
