Re: It started with a pop
Yay, congratulations on all the work turning out well. When you talk about the vertical threaded throttle rods which attach to the carb bell cranks, I had quite a time with them when setting my engine up for the first time. I found that the key to good adjustment was to use the vertical threaded rod...

Re: popping and spitting Solex carbs
When something runs badly, there is only one way for sure to catch that Gremlin, and that is the dull, boring and time consuming way of being really thorough. Start by looking at the valve clearances, all of them. Next set up the timing. Look at the points, if you have them, check they are clean, an...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I passed my 'test' in a C152. G-BODO out of Enstone. actually I did my biennial flight with an instructor for my licence revalidation in G-BODO last year. Aviation is quite a small world, isn't it! My skills test/renewal was the last time I flew G-BODO. I did most of my flying training out of Ensto...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I passed my 'test' in a C152. G-BODO out of Enstone. I took ages to get to that point though. I first went solo in a Piper Tomahawk PA38 in 2002, and have been lucky to know a lot of aircraft owners who have let me have a go P1 in theirs. My favourite aircraft is a tie between a PA18 Super Cub, and ...

Re: Help please with virtually non running C
Hi there James. I think that I would give the fuel tank breather a looking at. It could be that initially fuel gets through, but after that the headspace above the tank is airlocked. The simple way to check is to run it with the fuel cap off and see what happens. When the engine does die, can you qu...

Have you ordered a JP Dansk oil cooler? I have just bought one, it looks to be OK, but can't fit it yet, because my case is still away awaiting an align bore.

Re: It started with a pop
Hi Andrew. What did you do when fitting the crank pulley seal? I have seen a lot written about using the special Porsche tool to seat the seal properly in the 3rd piece. The last time I did it, I just tapped the seal in place, and all seemed well, however on stripping the engine 6k miles later, I fo...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration
Yay!! Just a thought, but did the carbs only overflow when you had a higher 'head' of fuel from your dummy tank than you could ever have if the normal tank was fitted? Quite often the float bowls will have been pulled out of flat by the screws holding them on, I guess that could account for the drip...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration
^^This^^ Old Japanese bikes are notorious for dribbling float valves. Give these a very thorough looking at. If they have any discernable wear rings on the needles they will give trouble. If you are very lucky, then they might lap in, but usually new ones are needed. Also could be due to crud in the...

Re: It started with a pop
Liking this thread very much, as I will soon be building my engine back up (for the second time!). I have bought a Precision Matters full flow adaptor also. I looked at what was necessary to modify my third piece, and instead of breaking out the Dremmel, I decided to see a mate with a milling machin...

Re: New Toy - ZERO Porsche content !! (Two wheeler !!)
I can sympathise. I bought a bike recently at auction. Concourse apparently, it certaintly looked it. It was the first time I had bought a restored bike or for that matter, a restored anything! I normally buy basket cases, and endeavour over a few years to put them together. It had however been sat ...

Re: Anyone waiting for UK registration on an imported vehicl
Thanks Keith, thats very helpful. I think that I can get everything I am going to need fairly easily now. Probably the only worry is the lack of Italian registration document (it didn't even have a number plate fitted), and that I only have an electronic copy of the dating document from the registry.

Re: Anyone waiting for UK registration on an imported vehicl
I'm currently going through all of this with my F B Mondial. The main issue is that there is no original registration document from Italy, as the bike was sold through Bonhams as part of the disposal of the former Morbidelli museum. I have filled in the V55/5, and as Keith says, you hardly need to f...
