Re: Harry's Garage - Sports Purpose '65 911
£90k for the engine!
I've been trying to break that down in my head and I just can't imagine how that figure is arrived at.
Aluminium, steel plus labour.
Tuthill's labour rates must be astronomical these days.

Re: All change at Classic Porsche magazine...
Looking through the latest issue.
Seven page article on the Carrera 3.0..... all the illustrations are of a late Carrera 3.2....
Jeez - what is the point?

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
All the oil/crankcase breather pipes around the back of the intake can affect the idle. Does your engine idle speed alter when you remove the oil filler cap. It should just wobble a bit when you remove it, and then settle back to normal when you replace it. Upon removing the oil filler cap my idle ...

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
Good news.
Once you get into it....
As you've found it's a big advantage to pull it all off as you can see the condition of all the hoses and connections.

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
Change in engine note. Spray carb cleaner around each intake joint, if the idle speeds rises/smooths out for a few moments then you have a leak. I have a leak. The fluctuating became much more accentuated and then stalled. Also the spray looks like it's getting sucked in and out. I posted elsewhere...

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
The polythene is strange to say the least. It is very easy to pull the inlet manifolds off and replace the gaskets (there are 12). There would have to be a hell of a gap for it to get 'pulled' in there. Perhaps more indicative of some poor quality work in the car's past?

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
No idea what the green connector is - definitely not something my car has. Aftermarket kit of some sort (alarm?)
Your car has backdated heat (presumably also SSIs fitted?). The connector lying loose on top of the manifold is for the engine fan - removed in your case.

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
Best advice is to get a copy of the Bentley manual for the 3.2.
It will rapidly pay for itself.

Worth trying - you can't miss it, straight in front of you as you look at the engine.RobFrost wrote:ok thanks will give that a try... Now to find it!Chris_911 wrote:Trying cleaning the idle air control valve re the stumbling and stalling at idle.
