Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Nick You are right there was one N/S door (the most complete one) http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2858/12025524633_be3998d006_b.jpg with a number http://www.flickr.com/photos/54734336@N00/9542782704/ The other fairly good condition door had a number penciled on it - http://www.flickr.com/photos/547343...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Hmmmm,

The inside of the doors has been painted

Any thoughts on using paint stripper to remove the paint so as to see if I can find the stampings?

I have some Nitromors but don't want any undue damage

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Hi Mike Thanks- I will look for the numbers but I am not sure where about they are stamped on the inside door. If the doors are numbered 1 to 4 in the above photo the two right hand ones are rusty enough :) to be original Here are photos but I had to shrink them to post. If you can point me to the v...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

So now into the (almost) four doors. There seem to be subtle differences and maybe 11pm is too late to get into detail so I will go with an overview first - detail later

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Thanks! Lightweight_911

I am still figuring out how to post these photos with too much focus on editing photos to post and not enough attention to detail!

But it seems these are correct units for LYY 911D, they fit the shell perfectly.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Now I have sorted most of the bits into dry boxes I can start to see what I have. I will go shoot the doors next but first some sidelight There are three front side lights http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5520/12026377536_ba65e3a7cd_b.jpg[/im] There are two which look like originals both right and left...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

A couple of questions. I dusted them off and wiped down light rust. the springs are rusted

1. Do these look like original parts?
2. Is there anything I should do to them other than store in a dry location?

I meant to preface by saying I am going to post shots of parts I dig out of boxes as I catalog the inventory of parts - starting with these clutch parts

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

The last time I saw a 911S clutch was when Josh Saddler at Autofarm in Bucks then showed me mine. It had been burnt out by my wife trying to park on a hill shortly after passing her test (the 911 was our only car!) The rivets had melted and the metal radiated like stalactites from the clutch plate. ...

Re: RHD UK No 1 '67 911S ex Porsche Cars GB reg LYY 911D auc

The car had be resprayed and when I had some rust repairs I found that the colour used was Aubergine 025. I believe this was a colour introduced for 1972-3 model years
It looked better than this photo shows and in many lights was absolutely superb.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Well, after visiting the Siverstone Classic this weekend and talking to various folks this project will be a case of exploring the possibility of the art of the restorers. This was my original inspiration. Memories of this from the mid 1970s are my primary motivation and with a supportive wife (now ...

Well I have the time! And the longer I work the more money available. Also I will have to sell my gen 2 GT3RS to pay for this but I think it is worth it.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Been ferreting around the boxes this evening. You are right there are surplus "spares" but I hesitate to discard anything until I am sure it is surplus to requirements. Also if U/S I will keep for the time being. It seems the list is correct but some of the items are in very poor condition...
