Re: LYY 911D Restoration

I told you I am a Porsche nut. Dont worry about the driving fun; in the meantime this is my driving fun. I may have to sell her to fund the works (but my wife has stopped coercing me into disposing of her  ) So over the next two years..... http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2853/11826173526_59a86c7...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

OK, complete bodywork, and then what to do with the chassis number? As far as I can see, it's rusted away on the original shell. So, in the end there will be stamped something, this thread will live forever on the interweb (cached by several sources) The car will be very hard to sell.... Barwaut, I...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Emerging from a Christmas of floods and power cuts at my daughters I have only now got the time to read and respond. I understand and in many ways agree with Andy's and Bill's viewpoint, advocating "cut there losses and bale out" and I guess then break up the parts and sell piecemeal? I kn...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

I did a bit of research to find out how to remove the clocks. Later models you can just pull out the instruments but these early 911's have a retaining bracket to which the speedo and tacho are bolted. The only advantage of all the corosion I found is that I had pretty easy access but a lot of coros...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Well done John I think you can safely assume they are original to your engine and the car. So, complete matching numbers, engine, gearbox, chassis, webers. What about the date stamp under the steering wheel on the hub? Regards Mike Finally I got to the Steering Hub Mike. The horn ring came off easi...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

I will have a look Mike when I get back (I'm in the USA just now on business). Under the steering wheel on the hub - I take that to be the steering wheel hub. I am putting the chassis up on axle stands so it is more accessible for examination. Just before that I took these pics: http://farm8.staticf...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

Well Mike,

It has taken me a couple of weeks but finally got out of home duties to snap this. Yes there is a small "S" where you described.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

I am finding this fascinating - I'm sure all you experts know this but I am learning as I go. The code from Weber is confusing 40 IDA3C and 40 IDA3C1 The prefix 40 is clear, the prefix always indicates the size of the throttle plate, so these have 40 mm throttle plates The suffix (following the pref...

Re: LYY 911D Restoration

I wouldn't be surprised if the door is from a 1972 car as it is in significantly better condition than the shell. The owner seems to have assembled various parts to renovate the car between 1979 and 1983.

Re: LYY 911D Restoration
