Re: Rear brake problems

I have spoken with a friend - Ian and we also came to that conclusion - I plan to have another go this weekend with the handbrake backed off. I have also complete the seal change and think it has worked but will only know when it is all back together with the main nut torqued up as I think this must...

Re: Rear brake problems

Hello Unfortunately, I had to walk away from it !!!! Even with everything in place, the brake shoes still will not fit inside the drum !!!! I have stared at it for hours and tried all sorts of adjustments and for such a simple job it has been extremely frustrating. Quite embarrassing that I cannot s...

Re: Rear brake problems

Hi Roy Thanks for the advise I am currently borrowing a torque gadget, which will tighten up to 600 lb ft so I think I have the right equipment for the job Hopefully I will get on with sorting the 'easy' side this evening and then will look at the seal on the leaky side Thanks again Regards Jeremy

Re: Rear brake problems

Ok I think I now understand the comment that the adjusters are 'angled' I think mine are the wrong way round so the shoes are not fully seated in them. I will open up the springs and turn them round and I think that will sort it !!! thanks so much for all the advise and information, I really appreci...

Re: Rear brake problems

I have checked all measurements and they seem to be pretty spot on Also I have taken the other set of shoes and they fit nicely in the drum, The adjusters are backed off totally I suspect it is something to do with how the shoes are seating in the slots The springs all seem fine and I was ok with fi...

Re: Rear brake problems

Many thanks I will get measuring this evening and also checking radius to make sure the shoes fit the roundness of the drums I am sure that I have probably been stupid and if I take it all apart and put it back together again then it will all slot together nicely !!! Positive thinking !! All the bes...

Re: Rear brake problems

Hi Merv They are about 7.5mm in thickness - I will get the other pair and see how they look in the drum for the radius Drum looks good and healthy with good linings I think that they are centred and have tried moving them up and down to see if that makes any difference. They do seem to be a bit more...

Re: Rear brake problems

Hello Thanks for the responses. Yes I did initially struggle with the nuts but got them off with a friends impact driver gadget (must get one for myself !) I have cleaned and fitted the new shoes to one side and all the springs and parts went on fine. I have backed off the adjusters and cannot see a...

Rear brake problems

Hi I have found that I have a rear axle seal leak. I have sourced brake shoes for both sides for the rear of the 356A T1 and a seal kit Whilst struggling with one of the axle nuts, I thought I would sort the brake shoes on the 'good;' side Anyway I cannot now get the drum back on !!! I have noticed ...

Kings Head Klassik this weekend

Anyone going to this?

Looks as if the weather should be good and it would make a good alternative to the cancelled Classics at the Castle

Hopefully there will be a load of interesting Porsches there too !

Re: Camber compensators - opinions please!

Many thanks for all this information and comments. It really does help when trying to evaluate a change or upgrade. As this does not seem like a simple bolt on fix I think it will add it to the wish list. Mainly because there are probably higher priority fixes to complete first. I would like to make...
