Re: VDO bezel and glass removal

When I was rebuilding the instruments on my Laverda I fitted a circa 1" o/d standard ball bearing onto a bar which I mounted on a lathe tool holder. I then mounted the assembled instrument in the chuck, held in place by the tail stock, and gently pressed the bezel rim back onto the housing a ve...

Re: 2.2s oil tank fitting

On my 2.2s, which was restored by Canford Classics, there is no gasket on the inner wing. Its a fair bet that it was done correctly!

Re: Dwell meters

I bought a multi meter with dwell and DC voltage settings from Maplins a few years ago for not silly money. I'll see if I can dig it out for model reference.

Re: O/T - non Porsche - Caterham

I had a Superlight R in green with a yellow stripe and loved it with overtaking being just like riding a big motor bike i.e instant. But it was a few years old and needed a fair bit of tlc on the chassis mainly because the factory paint is rubbish and falls off. I ended up rebuilding the Rover engin...

Re: Ideas for motorway-mile-munching fun?

Just back from our second 2000 mile round trip to the South of France this year in an Audi SQ5. Managed to survive Calais and get circa 35 MPG cruising at 85 MPH. Very comfortable and loads, I mean LOADS of power when needed. A great car.

Re: What pressure in fuel lines?

There is a filter in the tank which is part of the outlet to the pump. Over time it can become clogged with muck. Mine was pretty knackered. Its a messy job but I fitted a new one and so far so good.

Re: What pressure in fuel lines?

The fuel pressure is controlled by a small drilling inside item 8 I think and is non-adjustable. There is also a requirement for a flow rate of circa 2 litres a minute which is much higher than consumption but I believe helps cool the mechanical injection pump.

Re: Alternator

Yes you can just spin it up with a drill. I've done this several times. Just hook it up with a good battery with +ve to the output and the field exciter connection, -ve to the fan housing and off you go. As the alternator starts to generate you will feel the torque reaction on the drill. Connect a m...

Re: Non Porsche — Lotus Europa

Many moons ago I had a Kermit Green Europa Twin Cam. What a great driving car BUT your pop is right about reliability. Remember what Lotus stands for:-

Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious or Loads Of Time Using Spanners. There are no doubt many more.

So eyes wide open and go for it!

I used Peter Tognola to re-set my 2.2s geometry and ride height. He only works on Porches. He is based in Datchet near Windsor.
