Re: 1971T Coupe LHD Sporto - Burgundy - US Import

Bit on the short side for me, but a good start I agree. Doesn't like cars or birding (or me as far as I know) so not perfect, making my point above ......

Re: 1971T Coupe LHD Sporto - Burgundy - US Import

Joel, I think anyone looking for perfection from a 45 year old car (even a Porsche) is likely to disappointed. Bit like the search for the perfect woman - especially a 45 year old one!
Glad you're enjoying the journey though - it might be the best bit in the end.

Re: 1973 2.4T CIS Restomod

This really was a bummer for Charles (and me really) - when he says a loose head stud, what I found was that the two outer head barrel nuts were loose - not quite finger tight, but not much more, so that was most likely the cause of the gasket popping. Charles had followed my advice and put the car ...

Re: Spring of gear lever assembly, early type

I found if you push the pin through the spring as far as it will go before trying to compress it, then it helps to stop the spring trying to bow and ping off across the garage (or into your face or nether regions). Personally I used a wide jaw pair of grips (the ones that open to 3" or so) acro...

Re: Spring of gear lever assembly, early type

Max, Not sure are you asking how to do it, or about to reveal how you did it? If the former then I can a) agree it is a MF of a job b) advise thicker gloves c) describe how I have done it at least three times - not necessarily the best way though! Mick P.S. It is described in the Workshop manual but...

Re: 1973 2.4T CIS Restomod

It is indeed a tortuous journey this car has taken Charles on - and there's more....... ..... but what added to the puzzle was the fact that (as you can see in the photo above) Mr. Airey has a rolling road, and the power tests showed 200hp+. So what could possibly be wrong with that! And even allowi...

Re: Matching or Not?

Doesn't make them go any better, or be more reliable, or be more fun to drive, but for reasons I cannot fathom matching numbers does seem to add significantly to the value of the car. To me a replacement engine or (especially) gearbox of the correct original type should make no difference whatsoever...

Re: 911/ 915 lightweight flywheel

Graham. Flywheel bolts are stretch bolts and should never be re used. I once had a flywheel come loose on a chassis dyno. Very scary! For the cost of changing them it's not worth the risk IMO. Cheers. Andy They are indeed 'stretch bolts' (most are in these circumstances by definition), but if they ...
