Re: Classic motorbike 2 stroke experts?

It looks like there are pins in the ring grooves, and those are lined up. Normally it is bad practice to have ring gaps lined up. I don't recall pins in the grooves of my old Suzuki pistons. I redesigned the ports on my 750GT (1974) and had the block modified. I know that you cannot allow ring ends ...

Re: Engine bits n bobs needed

A couple of things to be aware of. The magnesium air ducting on the front of the engine is a critical part of the charging system since the alternator grounds to it, and the engine case connects the ducting to the ground strap, and thus to the chassis. If the ducting is power coated, then that might...

Re: Mystery Box

Looks to be a power supply to provide 12 volts, and in this application from 6V input. It is most likely related to the alarm system.

I'd like to see the difference in what they actually provide on the COP. They are not asking for a lot of detail on the car, primarily just the VIN.

Re: Flipping gears

As has been stated, flipping the gears will reverse the direction of thrust of the dear on the shaft. This is primarily important to the bearings that support the shaft. While a well known expert like Grady Clay said that this was not a good idea and could lead to premature failure there are other pe...

Re: 550-spyder

At times the factory was very loose and free with chassis numbers. If a chassis frame was damaged it could get a new frame in time for the next race; as to what happened to the chassis number, that is where the mystery is. Often a damaged frame could be resurrected over time. If the paperwork went w...

Re: Dodgy battery

That sort of depends on the Amp rating that you are speaking of. If it is the capacity rating such as Amp-hours, then the 38 was well on the low side, and the 70 is just about correct. However, usually batteries that are rated in Amp-hours are designed for a completely different purpose than automob...

Re: Engine and head case numbers

The engine case is 901.101.101.7R. Is this from a 1972 car? Assume magnesium? It is best if you provide both sides (901.101.102.xR) but with 101.7R I would expect 102.7R. There was a 101.5R/102.7R combo. Earliest 7R is in 1973 that I know of. There are some rare aluminium cases with 7R. Best to kno...

Re: Matching numbers help.

Depending on the year and model there are a multitude of numbers to match. The more that match the better your chances of getting top price.
It is those people that know about the details also tend to care more an pay more for the best examples.
