Gonna add some balance to this thread. Without cars that go 'a step too far', we wouldn't actually progress. Car styling pretty much owes everything to people who push the boundaries on the hot rod scene. I'd agree with what you're saying but I think in this case they've completely destroyed the so...

Don't forget that the 914 had a Type 4 fitted also, so if you choose the right crankcase to start with you can claim that you've got Porsche power in the back. Still only four cylinder though... :P Here's a pic of a beetle I had in the past that ran a 2.4 Type 4. Reliabilty and torque was great but ...
