I have lived in Japan on and off for 35 years. Mostly in the '70s and '80s, and at that time in Tokyo. But for the last six years or so in Hokkaido, the north island. My experiences with the Porsche crowd in the old days led me to avoid them like the plague. I had a 356A Speedster back then, and did...

Agreed. A very nice story. A bit O/T but I was attracted to Hendrik's comment "All I can say is WOW". I live on a thoroughbred horse stud in Japan, and one of the more recent brood mare purchases was an American mare who had an interesting racing career before retiring and going to stud. H...

Nige Interested to hear you are using Thunderbird. I'm going on holidays for a few weeks tomorrow, and have been toying with the idea of making the change myself while I have some time on my hands. Everything I've read sounds good, and I particularly want to be able to bring all my files over from m...

What is it with instrument repairers and Hartmuts?

Palo Alto is Hartmut Mees. One of the most uncommunicative, monosyllabic people I've ever come across, but he did all five of my gauges brilliantly and well within the time I specified.

Very interesting thread. I agonised over what to do with mine when it came out of its barn. It was painted white, but very, very badly. The original color, as soon became apparent, was Tangerine (2002 L in 1967). I opted to go back to original, but being in rural Japan, without ready access at anywh...

Thanks all for the responses. As today was brilliantly fine - rather than snowing heavily as forecast - I drove painfully up to my mechanic's workshop in third gear (couldn't get fourth or fifth at all) and got the job done. It was very simple really. He drilled out the hole, tapped a new thread, an...

Gear Linkage Coupler

Would appreciate some advice please. Last weekend I suddenly found the gear change from third to fourth very difficult to make. The clutch felt OK so I figured it had to be something to do with the linkage. When I pulled the carpet up and got into the back end of the transmission tunnel, I found tha...

Not exactly the most elegant solution . . . to anything! Thanks Mike. Have also noted the other advice regarding weight when the settings are done. With the weather closing in, and almost a month back in Oz from early next month, it might now have to wait till next Spring. But have a number of winte...

Pardon my ignorance, but I didn't know there was a bumper weight??? I've sometimes thought it could do with a bit more weight in the front - but then so can they all. The 911S is rested for the winter, but the 964 soldiers on on studless tyres and as much weight as I can pack into the front boot spa...

Many thanks Nick. I've printed out and will take this to Tokuno san tomorrow. I'm quite sure it will be more useful than what we have at present and will make his day. But quite apart from the wheels, the wiring diagrams are also very welcome indeed. I love where I live, but I do wish all you guys w...

'67 911S wheel/suspension setup

Much in need of some help to try to get my car's suspension set up properly - just about the last thing I need to do to make me feel reasonably) happy about where it is for the time being. The engine has been my major preoccupation, and I'm finally close to happy with it. Even after a Canfords rebui...

Wow - what a way to go out!!

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp351/GregLund/DSC00215.jpg In a sign of the times, a new funeral parlour has just opened in my nearest local town out here in the wilds of Hokkaido, in northern Japan. As the rural economy falters, young people gravitate to the mainland and big cities, fewer and ...
