Re: New 914 owner

Re the brakes , it is worth checking what master cylinder is fitted , as someone said you usually have to upgrade it in line with upgrading to bigger brakes . I had a look at that car because it was a rare beast and cheaper than an early 911 ! I did not get to drive it though as owner wanted compreh...

Yes , well done . You have an interesting stable now . Let me know when you retire the A from racing , but don't take too long as I am now well past the biblical life span ..... :)

Hotels near Strasbourg with secure parking ?

Will be driving back from Gmund ( birthplace of Porsche cars) to Calais and need to make an overnight stop somewhere . Will have left Gmund around midday , so after 6.5 / 7 hours driving with trailers should be close to Strasbourg and well past Stuttgart . Convoy of 3 of us all with trailers so park...

+1 . Saw a RHD A coupe in these colours ( non metaliic Aquamarine + red vinyl seats + oatmeal carpets as per its CoA ) a couple of years ago when the Reivers were offering it , looked just right.

Re: 356B (T5) Help

Agree that you need to go to someone who knows 356s , there are not many in UK , my suggestions have already been suggested (!) and I don't know of any in Sheffield area . The centre of gravity of Porsche fettling is down south , probably in Essex! My top pick would be Steve Winter , Jaz , near St A...

What’s surprising about price The engine is 200k usd plus If car was perfect it would be about 600k plus GBP Agreed . I know of 2 UK owned 356 (A) Carreras sold in the last 12 months , I understand that each achieved in region of 700k GBP and the cars went overseas . They were 'correct' cars , so d...

Re: Happy Birthday, Oldtimer

Well thanks guys !! It is a week later because I rarely visit DDK and when I do I just look at 356 stuff and the 'Commercial ' area. I have grown older and wiser however because I have sent the Ferrari 308 GTS away to be sold . I am expecting a fairly severe haircut on this but as I am bald anyway t...

Re: 59 356a (BXE 435)

Just to confirm that the inspection by DVLA is to check that the info submitted already to HMRC is correct . They checked chassis number and engine number on my '55 car imported from Australia and needed a clearance of 2 metres all around the car to take pictures of it. No charge but my inspector st...

Re: 356 LED bulbs

Good work Disco - well done ! I had to replace instrument lights in a 1980 Ferrari 308GTS , standard issue are barely visible - you cannot see what speed , what revs , what water / oil temp etc at night ! They were all 12 v tungsten but I had to use a US supplier for replacement LEDs . OEM 356 instr...

Re: UK delivered 2.2 E based Vintage Racer RHD matching numb

If its originally a UK car thats been exported , does that mean it won't be subject to VAT etc if imported back over here ? No, I'm afraid not. (I asked the same question when I imported my 70 S from Brisbane, which is a UK car that spent most of its life in Australia). On the bright side, seems ex...

Re: RHD 356s - how many?

I’ve got a left hand drive car in the paint shop where it has been opened up to look for rust and found to be remarkably free of it. It’s an American import and one that hasn’t seen salt, but it is interesting to compare its likelihood of rusting with Brit equivalents. There is no comparison really...

Re: RHD 356s - how many?

Does anyone know how many right hand drive 356's have survived in the uk? I know there must also be RHD examples in other countries like Australia but was curious. I've never seen any data published on the LHD / RHD split, including years and years of reading porsche post. AFN were the UK distribut...
