Close to where I live there is 50mph stretch where the road skirts a village - fair enough but this 50mph stretch is now enclosed by a new 50mph stretch of open country road. They haven't even bothered to take down the large signs that marked the start and finish of the original reduced speed stretc...

Done also but I think this may be a lost cause . Certainly in my region of the wonderful county of Essex various A roads have suddenly been reduced to 50mph. Is there maybe some cause for litigation against councils who do this on the grounds that they previously allowed us to drive at 60mph on road...

I was really surprised how easy it was to strip the 912 engine. There were very few "special" tools needed, mostly just spanners (and a large mallet to remove the heads due to the incorrect washers  ) This was the first time I had ever been involved in stripping an engine but it is d...

I would say go to a specialist (or dhave a go at it yourself) :) My 912 engine (different kettle of fish I know) snapped the crankshaft during the summer so, a few weeks ago, I spent a day at Maxted Page and Prill stripping the engine down with the expert help of Adam. We found that, during a previo...

The crank had snapped near to the flywheel end so the strange noise was the flywheel banging around against the inside of the bell housing! and the flywheel nut looked like someone had tried to take it off with a chisel. On the positive side the crankshaft was already "3 under" so ...

Engine Rebuild

Hi All. A few of you may remember that my 912 suddenly started sounding like the proverbial bag of spanners on the way home from the Fairmile BBQ back in August. I had the car recovered back to Maxted Page and Prill where Adam dropped the engine and diagnosed the problem as a snapped crankshaft! :sh...

Paul, I think that your car is definately worth protecting to the tune of £300. I would imagine having adequate fire protection must also have an effect on Insurance premiums as well.

Hi all, A tricky question this. I used to be in the retained Fire Service but my information is a little out of date so I certainly stand to be corrected. I certainly wouldn't recommend an AFFF (aqueous film forming foam) extinguisher for a car unless you intend emptying your fuel tank and setting f...
