I had the same problem on my Spyder - it was the inner and outer steering columns touching as the bush that should keep them apart had disintegrated. Not sure if you could have the same problem.

I bought an SVDA dizzy for my 914-4 (160 BHP 2.3 litre) See the link to an article which describes its benefits and some of the drawbacks to the 009. I also used Petronix electronic ignition. This combination worked very well in conjunction with the Webcam 86 fast road cam and Dellorto carbs http://...

There is one in this country that has been traded several times outside of the "small, knowledgeable community"
Would that happen to be yellow in colour Tom?

A recent exercise by the police in South Bedfordshire saw them stopping anyone with the slightest infringement on number plate style/layout and booking everyone. According to all the personalised number plate suppliers, only a properly constructed plate is legal - old style before 1973 - whi...

I think you'll find that the answer to your first question is no - the police are getting very hot on "illegal" number plates. Apparently, only properly made plates are allowed.

Bart Aertgeerts, who bought the company from John Jobber, suspended operations in 2005 due to his ill health and the problems of SVAs on cars such as the GP Spyder. However, I understand that there is a very similar car still?? being produced by another company - http://www.718-rsk.co.uk/. They do l...

Andrew Have you tried Mittlemotor in Germany. I got some headers (and the rest of the exhaust) from them for my 914 and found them to be from Patrick Motorsport. They may therefore have them in stock and thus deliver reasonably quickly. (And it was cheaper than buying direct) http://www.mittelmotor....

Perhaps I could present a slightly different view - I had an engine built/modified for my 914 that turned out to be a disaster and had to be stripped and completely rebuilt with loads of new bits to replace the previously new bits that had been ruined in the original build. Certain (unwanted in the ...

No Tom - still got the Vitesse. I can't see Mrs Rog going out in the beastie very often - perhaps hot sunny days, and 40 MPH max, but the Vitesse has the seal of approval!

Going way off topic Roger ...a V twin turbo morgan?
Nearly - its a more modern replica with a Honda turbo charged engine. Fancied something a little different.

I bought the Rennshift, which if I'm honest, was probably an overkill to solve a problem with the linkage. The main problem with my linkage was the yoke? half way along the linkage. (Why do these things always happen at the 914 Internationals - in my case in Essen!) From memory this part links the f...

I'm an ex Spyder owner and used to belong to the Spyder section of the Speedsters club. I have never seen a space frame version, although I know GP, who made the VW based car, also had a space frame option fitted with a Golf GTI engine. It didn't sell for some reason. My car at Gurston Down Hillclim...
