Porsche Ecoating is black. New panels yes but obviously they e-coat the shells in light grey. You can only Ecoat a baremetal item as the paint needs an earth. Trying to Ecoat over Ecoat is a disaster. So that's why. New e-coat (light grey) will not stick to existing e-coat (black) hence the two col...

Any idea why the rear wings and floorpan are still in black? Maybe they put masking tape over those areas to prevent them from getting primered to save weight? The new black primered panels are already galvanised and KTL'd so no need to put another coat, right?

Thanks Nick.

Anyway, I've just found this (click KTL and paint shop):-

http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesan ... storation/

It's Cathodic dip painting bath (KTL). Is this the same thing as E-coat?

When I said electrolytic dipping, I think some of you thought I was talking about acid dipping. Perhaps I should have said Electrolysis bath. Well, here ia a link about it and a video:- http://wiki.owwm.com/Default.aspx?Page=RustRemovalByElectrolysis&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 http://www.yout...

Dear all. Last year I bought a RHD MN 1972 911 2.4S after much good advice from Nick Moss. Nick now has the car and is about to begin restoration, including a bare metal respray. What is MN? Tell us more about your car. Is it a coupe or targa? Sunroof or non-sunroof? etc Although I QUITE like the o...

e coating is q controversial these days. I think I am right in saying neither Alan @ Canford Classics, or Tuthills use it any more. The issue was moisture / gunk creeping out of seams over time and ruining new paintwork What coating do they use? Full bare metal paintjob c. £7k at Tuthills Does that...

Bare metal respray costs?

I need an idea on costs of the following:-

Electrolytic dipping (the factory restoration uses this method, right?)
Hot dip galvanising
E-coating
Paint finishing

Not including bodywork repairs or disassembly and re-assembly of the car.

Thanks in advance.

it's value lies in it's chassis number ... a fully restored all original RHD 2.4S with matching numbers could be up to £90K £90K ? Do you know anyone who has actually paid £90K for a RHD 2.4S? Look at these 2 cars - been for sale for ages:- http://www.paul-stephens.com/for-sale/Porsche-911-2.4-S/23...
