Re: M&W 550 Overhaul...
Hi fellow Spyder nuts! To answer Ian M question raising the engine would cause the fan housing to hit the underside of the clam shell. Everything is very tight under there. There is also the possibility of the generator pulley hitting the rear upper chassis cross tube. I have given all these options...

Replica Porsche inspection service
After 30 years of building, repairing and maintaining Speedsters and Spyders and seeing a fair share of poor build quality cars bought buy unsuspecting owners, I have decided to offer my services to inspect and report on potential purchases. I will travel nationwide for a fixed fee plus expenses to ...

Re: 356 Coupe EV Project
Hi Matt
I build full space frame chassis for the 356 coupe to order, which may be worth considering because of the extra weight of the batteries.
Also it will allow you to specify where you want position the battery banks.

Re: Twin carb linkages
Vintage Speed UK do a really nice centre pull linkage for a type 4.
http://www.vintagespeed.co.uk/index.php ... Itemid=119
It will fit all type 4 blocks including std 914 engines.

Re: Super-secret 356 Coupe Project
If you want 150bhp you need at least 2270cc. I suggest these parts: 78mm DPR crank, 5 dowelled and mated with a lightweight 200mm flywheel and fully balanced. H beam rods with 22mm pins Keith black 96mm stroker pistons Webcam 86b cam. I would advise you not to reuse the heads and go for new cores wi...

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread
Rob I would check out the Vintage Speed UK shifters. I put one in my speedster and it totally transformed the feel and gear selection.
Well worth a try as I have used both the Flat 4 and Empi and was not impressed.

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread
I meant to read directly off the cam. I stand corrected if you can get it to read from the exhaust valve. Very ingenious.

Unfortunately it is pretty impossible to fit a cam sensor to a flat 4 aircooled VW.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "Empi" Rob.
Ditch it and get a Mocal OT2.
