Stubs on front struts question

I am putting my 73 2.4E back on the road after a long lay off. Noticed that two susp assys are different ... slightly ! Question : Should inner (larger) wheel bearing rest against a flat surface on the inside , or against it's rounded shoulder ? On mine , I have both ! On the one which I think is co...

Kidney Bowls - early (SWB) car ?

Did the early cars have these fitted ?
Can't see any on mine (does not mean they should not be there) , but Porsche parts list does not have them for this age of car ??
(I'm talking about the reinforcing bowl , which fits snuggly with rear of outer sill on, for example, a '73 car)

That's the driving end , driven side is even more simple .. don't loose the bits !!.
My suggestion would be - take driven end apart (2 mins) and see if motor turns on its own ... go from there.

Have you tried to fix the old one ? Don't know what sort you have , but mine on a 73 E was quite easy to take apart and get going again ! (last week)

At first glance I'm in the same boat !. .... but bearings don't dissappear ?
Is there a "set up" which has no top bearing , and just uses the steering wheel "bush" as an upper location ?? (car is 1966 build)

Err , no - much worse ... botched repairs , mastic instead of weld , I'll try and post some photos soon - it's hard to believe what people call repairs and charge for !!

Agree Nick .... when I see black I immediately ask " what are they trying to hide ??"
And as I'm still finding out on my strip down at the moment ..... plenty !!

A hacksaw is all you need (assuming you have the long - 85mm bolts) - leave the washers, leave the nut .. I was trying to make a point (engine out can be easily avoided) .. will shut up now.
