Few pics of the kids

Post by Gilbert '71 T »

thought I’d share some pictures with you of my brilliant day, it's about time i stuck some in here anyway.

The day started off as a ‘tinkering’ session in the morning sunshine with the 914, finished that then thought well it’s such a nice day let’s get out and stretch the 911’s legs. What was going to be an hour or so jaunt soon turned into the best part of 5 hours blasting around the Essex countryside, lovely queit roads, it was almost perfect :)

As if that wasn’t enough, once I got home around 5ish, couldn’t really settle and it was such a nice evening so I got the 914 out and went out for more of the same, as the old queen number goes “don’t stop me noooow”

Feeling pretty knackered now, and the left knee is feeling it, but a helluva great Porsche fix today nonetheless 8)

BRING ON THE SUMMER :sunny:

Man your cars rock but driving them on roads like that kills it!!!

Love those cars man. I'd love a another 14, but it would have to be black.

Out of interest, which car do you prefer driving on a sunny day?

it's a difficult one James :)

911 is more refined, comfier seats, nice sound system and certainly wins on sheer grunt, open top with blue sky above you and the flat 6 on full song is wonderful, and over the longer distances 911is the one, it’ll be taking me and the missus on our honeymoon tour down to the south of France, so I guess it is first choice.

Having said that , the 914 is a little nutter, more raw I‘d say, I do feel it’s underpowered and clearly lacks the power of my 911 but I see that as a compliment to the 911, if I increased the power on it and tweaked the suspension then I would be really stuck on choice as they’d be too sort of similar, which is why it will remain relatively stock powered for now. Each time I get in it I still can’t help grinning, it’s just so much fun and chuckable both around town and on country roads.

For spirited driving 914 is all mid-range power and needs a bit more work to get the best out of it’s performance than 911in the does , but the 911 requires more work in the handling dept because of it's performance, which sort of sums up the compliment between the two I’d say. Both cars offer plenty in terms of driver involvement so it all depends on how I feel on the day as to which car I’d take out.

I took much the same route in both cars on the day above and gave them some real stick, I’d say the 911 was more exhilarating, but you can’t knock a 914 for pure fun, a well set up 914/6 must be awesome.

Sorry to all 914 owners, but if I could own only one then it would be the 911, but if I didn’t have the 911, I’d be more than happy with the 914 on it’s own.

I can see why you are selling the '67 that must be a much harder choice than I face with my cars

thanks for the opinions on the two cars 8)

I'm trying to work out what car to get to compliment my 2.4S and use on the track, and I have been thinking about a 914 but with either a modified / turbocharged type4 motor or find a kit to drop in a 3.2 flat 6 :) All this is 'day dreaming' at the moment :)

Maybe I should look at some impact bumper targas?

It must be a massive relief not to have too many days on which a choice has to be made!
It never fails to astound me the way you guys use Photoshop to put in all this surreal sun and shadows!!! Just a pointer on the colour you need for the sky though

And a rather extrovert trike that turned up at the meet today - looks like VW power!!

I am hoping to see some nice sunny pix in here from the 914 International in Spain next weekend!!

Quite a nice decision to have to make though  imo a modified 914 would compliment your car as it's a lovely stock not messed about with 2.4S, a big six modified 914 with some proper suspension components would be ideal for the track 8), and it'll give you something to play around with setting up etc.. Patrick Motorsports do all the gubbins to put a six in, but it ain't cheap :(

Good luck with whatever you decide on :)
