Seats for '72 MY 'E'?

As posted over in 'General' I'm now the owner of a '72 MY 'E' (oil filler flap in the rear wing). Currently it has modern Recaro full-on bucket seats (with harness holes and everything!).

Will be looking to replace these with either the correct seats, or possibly a pair of Mark Waring's Bilsteins.

What should it have, and has anyone got a decent pair: I will also need runners as the originals have gone (the Recaro's have their own ball-raced (?) ones).

I thank you .... :)

P.S. No hurry, but thought it was worth a post before Husbourne.

This is what the correct seats should look like :

Image

they were only used in '73/'73 - vinyl is different to '69-'71 seats (which were usually basketweave) & recliners at the side were black 'speckled' finish (rather than the chrome ones in '69-'71) with the seat back release at the top of the recliner.

I tried for quite some time to get an original replacement pair for my '72 2.4T without success.

By the way Barry, wellcome back to 911 ownership!

Thanks Andy! Thought you might have the answers  .

Just as well in fact: they are a bit different to what I was expecting. Like I say, no hurry, but would like to move the Recaro buckets out before I attempt an MoT (wrong image: don't want the MoT man to think he's putting a ticket on a hooligan's car  ).

Oooo: what's that then??

It's at times like this I wish I had kept all of my 911 books: including the Johnston (sp?) book of authenticity

This is 'houndstooth' :

The chances of finding a pair of '72/'73 seats for sale with the houndstooth inserts are very remote !

Do you know what the original colour of the interior was ? (If it was a Viper Green car the chances are that the interior was black).

Also, Recaro sports seats may have been originally installed...

I have a pair of very nice 69 E basketweave seats that will bolt straight in.

Thanks again, Andy: I think I can resist the Houndstooth, even if they did crop up

The current interior is in black, which I'm keen to keep, so that should make life a bit easier.

Must admit that basketweave is my favorite of the finishes:shame it wouldn't be correct, nevertheless Nick, I'll have a chat with you at Husbourne :) .

Now sorted. After swapping mails with Peter, and looking at various original seats (having forgotton how I used to slide around on the originals I briefly had in the 911T), I ended up going a different route.

Went up to Husbourne, hoping to see some second hand Bilsteins (as in Mark Waring / World Wide Classics). Got chatting to Mark, and he did a very fair deal on some new (ex-display) seats. They were the ones I was after (Nurburgring Buckets with fabric insert), and I'm going to adapt the excellent runners from the Recaro's currently in the car, which will make a big difference to the costs.

Happy days :) :) :) .
