Hi guys,

My engine builder in Germany claims to get his parts for the engine from a company called KS. He buys it directly from the factory instead of from Porsche, and this will translate to a price of 90euros for a piston instead of 700 euros from Porsche direct.

He has 30 years experience in rebuilding Porsche engines but nonetheless I am a bit worried.

I assume Keith Seume isnt providing a stash of NOS bits and pieces so anyone knows "KS"?

I thought it would be Mahle, Shasta etc etc?

Thanks in advance,

Bert

Hello Bert.

No worries.

KS is kolbenshmidt, who make lotsa OEM pistons for 911's.

afaik they only make cast ones though..mostly for the T aND e motors..

90 E is veeery cheep!

Kind regards
David

It's probably Kolben Schmidt the piston manufacturer:

http://www.kolbenschmidt-pierburg.com/

They are a competitor to Mahle & have been supplying engine components to Porsche for many years - amongst other parts they currently manufacture/supply the Alusil V8 engine block for the Cayenne.

No need to worry ...

Wow, thank you so much. It is a huge relief to know. I will grill him to see how he gets them so cheap...

Well, exciting times ahead..., bottom end engine rebuild + balancing, little bit of body work*, suspension dropping a few inches, new suspension bushes, new oil cooler thermostat, anodising my fuchs and new and rebushed gear linkage all being on the agenda.

As always no blooming idea when the car is ready but as Keith "veryporky" remarked when we went out to inspect various carrera 3.0's in the country, "lets get your car back on the road first before looking at track day/lightweight coupe's."

*NOTE:I am fully aware of the dangers of this statement :bom:

Take care,

Bert
