904, 550 and Aluminium options from Classic Roadsters Ltd!

904 Briefing
Our 904 project has taken a step closer to completion thanks to the recent chassis development work of our man Chris and the talents of the Czech patternmakers. The front body clip can be seen in the recently taken photo, the rear clip doors, "boot" lid and under section have all been moulded to the same high quality and are simply awaiting a suitable curing time before taking their place in the Heyda workshop.
It is often claimed that a manufacturer "took their mould from a real car"
- when in reality they simply "splashed " another manufacturer's "splash"!!. In this case, the mouldings WERE taken from an original set of Heinkel moulds. You can't get much more authentic than that! However, Mohr was not entirely happy and had a set of mouldings taken out of the moulds, which then came under the attentions of their paternmaking gurus. 6 weeks of painstaking work were lavished on the buck before they were happy - and then a "King" set of moulds was taken, and subsequently - a working set of moulds. The resulting panels are flawless.
Our man Chris is due back in Heyda soon to adapt the new 550 chassis to suit the 904's longer wheelbase.
Meanwhile, the original 904 chassis is away for renovation to repair the various battle scars it received in it's racing past.
550 update
We have had much interest in our 550 project - especially the state of the art chassis - again designed by our man Chris. On his last trip out there Chris completed the new rear suspension incorporating the Mohr designed and manufactured magnesium hub uprights. The front suspension has been designed and will be completed on his next trip.
ALUMINIUM OPTION!
We have also mentioned elsewhere a new project we are working on - Hybrid Aluminum - Resin Composite body shells. Essentially, molten aluminum is sprayed into a special epoxy / ceramic mould to a thickness of .5mm and then backed up with an epoxy resin base. The result is a perfect alloy body shell, which can be polished / painted, but with none of the drawbacks and costs of rolled aluminum panels. The process will add about £2.5K to the cost of producing the body - a fraction of the cost of a traditional alloy body.
Expect to see the first bodies towards the middle of 2006.
By the way any suggestions for a colour scheme for our demo 550
(ANY colour BUT Silver PLEASE!)
