DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hello,
I need some help with garage flooring please. My dad has a concrete garage floor the kept throwing up dust so he painted it with a generic garage floor paint from B&Q (non-epoxy type). Unfortunately is seems to peel and isn't a great finish. We are looking at having another go and have a couple of choices:

1) The floor is fairly rough so pour on self levelling mix, let it dry and then paint with an epoxy paint. I did this at my own home using Resincoat epoxy in light grey. It has held up ok although does have a few small chipped areas.

2) Lay PVC interlocking tiles.

If we go with the first option, i am not sure if we can pour the self levelling mix directly onto the current painted surface. Is this ok to do?

Laying PVC tiles seems like the easier option. Have any of you tried this and can you recommend any particular tiles (it seems like there are a lot of options out there when I Google, including ones from Costco). Also, how do you cut them?
My dad parks his car in the garage so need something that can take the weight and Ideally in light grey (like the grey used on this DDK site).

I have the same concrete floor which i have painted before and like you've found, soon started lifting.

I now have plastic tiles and they are great . Mine are from Duramat

If the original concrete wasn’t sealed or is a bit damp there’s a risk self levelling compound will crack and lift.

Something Like sika 245 can go down really thick - like up to 50mm - to stop that happening but it’s a bit of an art to get totally smooth and a multi day job by the time you’ve scraped, levelled, painted.

If dad’s not fussed about which you do I’d just do tiles. You’ll be done in a jiffy and won’t even get your hands dirty.

You can cut them with a knife or a guillotine, there will be loads of YouTube vids I’m sure, but a track saw is my weapon of choice for such things. If you don’t have a track saw it’s a great oportunity to get your pop to buy you a track saw.

My garage floor had a concrete floor that left the space dusty. I used a self levelling compound to even out finish and then just applied a clear, brush on sealant over the entire floor and part way up the walls. Walls were then painted burn left the floor as is. Grippy, zero dust and very hard wearing. Only down side is it doesn’t look pretty.

I’m going to have another go soon to improve the cosmetics but don’t like the idea of floor tiles so looking for ideas too.

I have just ordered tiles from Duramat.

Feroz, if you have a smooth floor and don’t want tiles, consider Resincoat epoxy paint. I have been happy with it.

Had Duramat on my floor for about 10+ years now. Stood up to all the car and motorcycle restorations easily' jacks, stands engine hoists etc, paint oversprays etc.

I clean mine with cellulose thinners.

Light grey the best, you can find things dropped, but shows the dirt.
Tyres will leave a brown mark, but so what?

Some will warp in direct sunlight, but always flatten when cool.
