I'm trying to decide which type of spare wheels (set of 4) is best for moving the car ('70 911) out of storage and towing it onto a flatbed truck. The car is currently on Fuchs (deep 6's) but I imagine the existing tyres are flat. Hence the need for spare wheels.

Is this 928 wheel (5.5 x 15 ET30) suitable and does it have the 'J' humps for normal tubeless tyres? (not space saver tyre)



If anyone has a set of 4 (cheap), please let me know.

I'm sure that if it's just a case of a some suitable wheels & tyres to allow you to move a car, there would be somebody on here that could lend you a set ...

That would be great but there's not many Porsche guys in my area.

I think I need a spare set anyway as the body is going to be restored sometime.

Suggest a look for some tyre’s cookie cutters on eBay?

Some cheap Cookie Cutters was going to be my suggestion - probably the most cost effective route

I have a set of early 6" Cookie Cutters with tyres which all hold air suitable for rollers. The rims are good but tyres old. £300 if you were interested? - But you could probably pick up a set of 7" cheaper off of ebay though.

I would see if the existing tyres actually inflate. They will go flat over a period of time, and flat spot where resting on the ground, but it does not mean to say they will not inflate. I got my 1960’s Karmann Convertible out of storage last week, after 14 years laid up, all tyres were flat. Inflated them to put on the trailer, all inflated and were still so four weeks later in the garage at home until replaced.

Unfortunately, Surrey is too far for me. I'm from Sheffield. Postage would be costly for big items. Many thanks for the offer though.

Very good point. Thanks. My only worry is that the auto recovery hire would be wasted if any of the tyres don't inflate. (everything would have be done on the same day as the storage is quite far away but I'll think about it).

I think I’ve a set of cookie cutters in the garage that I bought for the same reason. I think I gave a couple of hundred quid for them.
Also a set of BBS 7x15 I reckon.
I can have a look this weekend if you like.

I'v just found a set of cookie cutters (all 6x15) on ebay. As a bonus, they came shod with unused Dunlop CR65's... Probably too good for use as "workshop" wheels. LOL

I've been checking the diameter of 5.00 M 15 (Dunlop CR65 204) which is the size I got recently. According to the HPT website who I believe are the official Dunlop supplier, this size has a diameter of 648mm but my set (unused) measures only 632mm (27 psi cold)

Sounds like your tyres might be 5.00 L x 15 CR65's rather than the M section version ...

Thanks but they're definitely M sections. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm starting to believe that "5.00" means 5-inches sidewall height (race tyres did not use % back then).

Therefore to calculate diameter:
5" = 127mm
multiply by 2 = 254mm
Add 15" rim dia (381mm) = 635mm

L section means Narrow
M section means Wide.

For taller tyres aka 660mm, opt for 5.50

If you are towing the car does this matter Ian?
As long as they hold pressure and are all the same size and fit with no binding, then all is good?
