Hi

We have got so many fitment guides we can usually clarify the majority of tyre fitment relatively accuratley. However we are struggling to clarify some detail about early 944.

some early 944 fitted 185/70VR15 front and 215/60VR15 rear.

then we think maybe 1984ish they moved to 195/65R15 on the front.

then generally it moved to the 16" P7's

However it is these few really eaerly cars we are trying to clarify. The difficulty is we have also found some contradictory evidence which sort of makes it look like they might have fitted 215/60R15 front and rear.

can anyone clarify one way or the other?

we are trying to get this page on 944 tyre pressure as accurate as possible. and as you can see our period fitment guides contradict each other. Any pictorial evidence would be epic. pictures of pages from owners manuals or build sheets would be great.

Oo thats ace Nine One One thank you. i have saved that to my files. However that is from the series 2 in 1987. the ones we are finding tricky are before that, its the 1982 - 87 that is foggey.

1985-1988 944 Porsche Catalogue............tyre sizes are all in there amongst the wheel sizes

https://www.stuttcars.com/wp-content/up ... 5-1988.pdf

Optional Extras

M164 - Tyres 215/60 VR 15 instead of 195/65 VR 15

M347 - Forged wheels platinum-anodized rim 7 x 16 tire 225/50 VR 16

M458 - Aluminium alloy wheels (cast wheels) Telephone styling

M394 - Magnesium alloy wheel (cast wheels), Telephone styling, 8J / 9J x 16

Have a read as there may be more....................

And you no doubt have the Pirelli Catalogue for the same period - 944 (1982 TO 1986)?

https://tyre24.pirelli.com/staticfolder ... che_EN.pdf

Then this simplifies the wheel fitment

Wow Nine One One. again there is some ace data there. However it still seems to be missing these illusive first 944 pre 1985

I'm afraid the Pirelli book is wrong as well. That is somewhat of a frustration to me. but if you look they dont even mention 185/70VR15, and they even list the 195/65R15 as a CN36.

However thank you for what you have found it is really useful.

That’s OK you have asked the similar question on a number of other forums, so hopefully someone will respond on those. Maybe the information is in an early 944 Technical Specification Booklet specific to 1981 models?

Hi Nine One One

Yep i did put it out there. its funny i never know which forum of facebook group is going to show any interest, and i'm a bit disappointed not to have had much interest except your good self. As a result i haven't solidified anything. I dont like leaving stuff like this vague. I have evidence points to both possiblities.
