As the New Year approaches I'm considering selling my 2.4 LHD 911T
I bought it from the highly entertaining "Jasper" of DDK fame some years ago and immediately sent it to be completely bare metal restored by Nick Moss at "Early 911 " . This took around 18 months (mid 2011 - 2013 ) and Nick did a fantastic job. I have approx seven pages of invoices / receipts for the work , which if I recall correctly add up to somewhere in the region of £65,000.
The car was completely stripped, dipped and re-painted in slate grey, my brief to Nick was to build a replica of the 911 driven by Steve McQueen in the opening scene of the Le Mans film. D'eser houndstooth check seats imported from Italy, new headlining, new carpets, new seatbelts , Momo prototipo steering wheel, new dash top etc
The 2.4 was completely dismantled and re-built from scratch including the Webbers , the gearbox received the same treatment. New exhaust, heat exchangers , fully refurbished Fuchs ( Nick's speciality ) - In short EVERYTHING was done properly. The car isn't matching numbers, I believe the block is from a '66 car .
As the car was nearing completion I received a phone call from my friend Brian Burrows in France ( Brian had/has only the best cars and amongst other things owned eighteen 2.7 RS's including Ferry Porsche's personal car ), who'd met Nick on a DDK trip to Le Mans ( in fact Brian phoned me as he was in the queue to get into the event having met Nick the night before ) and persuaded me to sell him the car. At the time Brian bought my car he owned 122 motorbikes and 68 cars ! which meant that it was hardly used.
I speak with Brian on a regular basis and in 2021 we were chatting on the phone and he said he was going to sell the T as he was now seriously into collecting vintage Rolex watches and needed to raise funds for a rare watch of significant value which had come onto the market. We agreed a deal and I had the car collected from his UK storage ( it had never left the UK ) and in the 9 years Bri owned it, it had done 118 miles.
I had the car taken to Maxted-Page in Essex, where my great friend Adam Lichtig, their chief technician ( more used to working on Le Mans racers ) as a personal favour went completely through the car replacing anything it required and carried out a change of all fluids and a full and comprehensive service, change of tyres etc . As this was "mates rates" the cost was around £3,200 ish. I then used the car a little more than Brian had over the previous nine years ( not difficult ) and since then it's done approx 3,500 ish miles and is in the same condition as when Nick completed the restoration. More recently the car has been looked after by Sam Lander Porsche in Malton and I have all receipts from servicing / checks etc that Sam has done. I'm sure he'd be very happy to discuss my car with any potential purchasers.
Over the last couple of years I haven't used it much due to a combination of illness / divorce / too many other cars and bikes etc. It's undercover and on a trickle charger in my storage and is started and warmed to temperature and driven round the compound on a regular basis by the retired guy I employ to look after my cars.
I've had quite a lot of 911's ( forty three to be exact and this is one of the best ) about eighteen months ago I tentatively advertised it via a dealer and I was approached by a DDK member who after thirteen emails, seven telephone calls and three cancelled appointments to view finally turned up to see it ( two hours late ) spent three hours looking over it with his paint gauge , engine number book, checking it underneath on my ramp , had a twenty five mile test drive and declared it to be " the best he's seen in the price range" and "would call me over the next week" - I never ever heard from him which I considered to be extremely rude, in short the world is full of dreamers ! I'm very happy to spend time with anyone who fancies a look at it but would rather entertain genuine people please.
I can't really see that it's going to used much in the foreseeable future ( I seem to be really into my Alfa GT junior and Morgan 4/4 at the moment !!!!!! ) so I thought I'd tentatively advertise it here ( as I'm bored during the Christmas break ) - I'm looking for £87,995
I'll endeavour to add some photos in a minute ( I'm not brilliant at that so I can't promise they'll appear ! - alternately if anyone can assist if I can email to them that would be greatly appreciated ) I can't help myself when it comes to buying cars so if anyone has a 996 or a 993 that they want to p/x we can always have a discussion. If you'd like a chat about the car my number is (07935) 676245
Happy New Year to everyone
Steve
