Hi folks,

First post on the forum. Been reading a lot and picked up loads already but feeling that I have very much just scratched the surface.

Have a history of restoring older vehicles in my spare time. Never had one beat me yet but there is still plenty of time

Until recently my interest was mainly in Land Rovers and 1970s & 80s motorcycles (Some pics attached). That was until last year when I took my Macan to be serviced and in the showroom I spotted an original 1963 356 that they had on display and was completely smitten. I raced home (sensibly of course) to do some research and quickly realised that, as suspected, a genuine 356 was way beyond my means. Not to be put off I then began looking at kit cars as a possible entry to something similar and was delighted to discover the Porsche replica scene. I had no idea it was out there. Happy days. 8)

Long story short I am currently finishing off my latest project (1995 Land Rover 90 County Station Wagon) and once the garage is free again I intend to start planning a replica 356 build. Like I say, I've done a fair amount of online reading, picture trawling and website drooling and whilst this is all well and good, there is nothing like a good old chin wag with someone who has 'been there and done it'.

I am located in central Scotland and would love the opportunity to speak with anyone who has completed a build, has an ongoing build or who owns a replica 356 to get their point of view, experiences and any constructive advice. I would be willing to travel anywhere in Scotland or Northern England to do so.

Just to clarify a few points. I am a genuine petrol head hobbyist. I am not a motor trader or 'wheeler dealer'. My restos have been done for the love of it and not to make money. I am willing to provide genuine credentials to anyone who can entertain my request.

Many thanks in advance,

S

Welcome. The Landie could be anywhere, but the bikes? East end of St A's, and one of the gravel laybys on the road between Ballater and Goodbrand & Ross.

Hi,
Welcome to the world of Porsche Replicas. I have built a Speedster Clinic 356 Pre A Coupe (build thread on DDK under this section, Burnt Pig) and am in the process of having another Speedster built so I can talk knowledgably about the trials and tribulations of Replicas. Feel free to reach out to me. I know a few in Scotland who are not necessarily on DDK and are into Porsche replicas, too, so I could put you in touch.
Regards
Rob

Hi,
Welcome to the madness 🤣. I've built five kitcars over the years, two being 356 Speedsters and still have the last one i built which I'll never sell. I also managed to get down to one classic car, so just the two toys now, which was difficult to do 🤣. My Stepson has a 356A Coupe replica kit which we were going to build together, well, to tell the truth, I would probably end up finishing it off 😂. He hasn't got the time and blows hot and cold the last two years about letting her go, and I can't see me doing another build now. If this is of interest, I can quiz him on it and see what he says. I'm in Troon, so maybe not too far away, cheers. Ps I know Rob (above). Photo is my Speedster with hardtop fitted 🫡
