...that is the question.

So I've mulling this one over for quite some time now.
At first it was a definite no. It was going to be the euro spec lights without doubt. The scoops were horrendous looking things and that was that.
As time has passed and the decision as to which type to fit draws closer, I've found myself giving the scoops a little more thought. Not sure why really but I'm starting to think an early US car should keep it's original look and learn to embrace the often maligned sugar scoops.
As said, it's a US car and I'm keeping the red rear lenses. It's back to it's original Conda and everything is screaming at me in my head to buck the trend to replace with the Euro spec lights and wear the scoops.

So chaps my question is what are your thoughts on the above? I know it's my car and I can do what I want with it, but I'm hoping for some input into pros and cons for both styles and any advice on the available conversions that will drop straight into a scoop headlight bucket without modification. Your experiences of going down a similar path and how it turned out.

*Edit. I should add for a little context, the car will also wear it's original S trim.

Reading your post just now, it seems to me you want the scoops!
Do just that, and have the satisfaction the car is a bit different, nobody will moan on here, your car indeed.
also, this is not a permenent change or position, you can always change it!

When you say Condor I think my 73T was originally that colour, quite unusual I think, the scoops might be the just the ticket!

You read my post and my mind perfectly!
My current headlights are scoops but the housings are in very poor condition. This obviously means I need to buy some from somewhere and then hope I like them. I have the Hella SB3 housings and you're right, I can always change them over at a later date if I wish.
My only slight concern is the lack of Illumination from the sealed beam units. I'm not partial to throwing good money after bad which I think is my main stumbling point. I want to get it right first time if I can.

My car isn't assembled yet but I'll post up a few photos when I can.

Go with your original instincts … replace those ugly things immediately …
Key point: Porsche didn’t design them with those things - it was to meet an insane USA regulation.
(Like those horrific sidelights on the 68)

I replaced my ugly ( good condition) scoops and threw them away …
First - I replaced with standard h4s.
I’ve just got a set of much more powerful LEDs, with RHD Bosch h4 lenses … and am very happy with them.

Obviously: it’s your choice in the end …

Ps lack of illumination should really be more than a slight concern ..

Can I ask which h4 headlights you bought please?
I know there's a drop in, no mods application but I've yet to find them. Hella code E h4 is the given reference when I've searched, but the actual headlight that comes up isn't a 911 style light.

Replace the hideous scoops immediately.

But keep them so you can occasionally look at them and remember why you did it....

(20 years ago - in Sydney - in A$).
note: they have the sidelight bulb holder built-in (ie not “correct” - but just don’t put the bulb in ..and leave sidelights in the wrap-around indicator lights - as per designed and as per all ROW cars.)

This is going exactly how I thought it would.

I do appreciate that the scoops are a little fugly. At this moment in time I have neither scoops (my existing are shot) or euros so I'm just gathering opinions and ideas for now.

If anyone has any H4 units for sale I might, just might, be interested.

The advantage with scoops is you’ll probably find someone will give a set free of charge as they will be glad to see the back of them

Personally, I hate to see those hideous US scoops. It's your car though, and not for anyone else to say how it should be.
