My 911 has 7" x 15" rims with 195 x 65 section Dunlop Blu Response, and coming up to 9 or 10 years old.

I am not interested in period tyre patterns etc, but budget tyres about £90 each.
What makes do this tyre size that are 'normal' ie A or B in wet weather?

Have had balance issues with this et of Dunlops, so would like to try others.

Go onto Kwik Fit...............not to buy from, but you can put your desired ratings in, and see which tyres meet your requirements, then look elsewhere for a better price.

Just use the REFINE MENU to put your braking and wet weather requirements in, load index etc.

Lots to look at there, but why pay nearly £300 each for P7000 when the ratings are poor in comparison to £90 each tyres with decent reputations?

I have 195/65 x15 Continental Premium Contact 6 tyres fitted to my 911T - bought from Oponeo & then fitted/balanced locally.

Their current price for 4 tyres inc (free) delivery is £320

I have used this firm before on ebay, and they have had some good deals.
If the link works these are all the A/B rating tyres for fuel and braking efficiency.

I used to use mytyres.co.uk but post brex they seemed to be less competitive. Try their website so you are not paying the ebay fees.

If you have a fav local fitter compare with camskil.co.uk prices.

I end up using blackcircles.co.uk most of the time. The price is close and the local garage gets a cut of the tyre price when I select them as the fitter.

I think a full caliper rebuild is on the cards very soon, so tyres will have to wait.

BIGGRED in Worcester seem to do a very nice rebuild kit for A and M calipers with new pistons etc.
Will be going that route soon.

Right; i think we need a bit of straight talking on this subject:

what are you talking about buying tyres purely based on your budgert for that car?

get some more money.

don't spoil your car for the sake of saving a few quid on one of the most importnat criticl components.

When you fit the 185/70VR15 Cinturato CN36 after those dread full 195/65R15 tyres you will thank me for putting you straight. 195/65R15 is inherantly wrong. The wrong size, the wrong shape, wrong carcass structure, they don't handle right and they look crap.

This is why you want a proper period tyre carcass



your car has differetn geometry to cars that fit 65 profile tyres. it isnt just the width of foot print of the fact the profile is 65%. it is because 65% profile tyres have different goals in mind when designing the carcass. they are developed to work in a different enviroment where your wheels are presented to the road at a different angle.

better suited tyres handle better.

One of the reasons you are having balance problems is you are having your wheels balanced aysthetically instead of practically. when you have a wheel like yours where the structure of the wheel is in the centre of the wheel, when you try to dynamically balance your wheel you cannot get the outside balance weight beyond the centre point of your wheel, therefore it doesnt work properly. You either need to have visible balance weights on the outer rim, of statically balance your wheels.

Happy to fit a free set of the Pirellis in the right size for next spring/summer to provide unbiased feedback (including wear assessment when being driven as intended) as it’s clear opinions are not going to align by repeating the same points.

I'm retired, money is finite, gone a long time ago is my disposable income without thinking too hard!

The 911 does about 2 k miles a year, never (almost) driven in anger, and I can do the same journey in my wife's Skoda Citigo as quickly as the 911 simply due to traffic and poor brakes.

I like the idea that Gary and all say the Conti because they tour and stretch the cars a bit and I respect what they say. Look at the mega tours he/they do.
At around £80 each = 320 a set they will be on the car in late March.

Following on from the ‘Hard Sell Cawley’ unfortunately speed camera/vans, crap potholed roads, speed bumps, numerous 34/40/50mph speed restrictions and other numpty drivers on the road mean unless you go out at 4.00am in the morning you are unlikely to be able to drive your classic as intended on most roads?
So what is the point of spending £286 per corner just so they look right?
