Hello,

Need some help I’m currently fitting my front boot catch, unfortunately the boot is stuck. The cable mechanism is working fine, but my thought is the plunger is slightly out of line. I can get underneath the car as my petrol tank is not currently fitted. Is there any way of releasing the front bonnet catch with a screwdriver from the inside?

What are my options?

If there is no tension on the cable it should ‘pop’ up.
Make sure the cable pull is at full pull, and gently press down and pull up on the bonnet where the catch is. You may need someone to help you pull the lever whilst you try and push down on the bonnet and pull it up. It may take several attempts.

I think the cable it fine. The problem is the plunger seems to be going in a different angle so was snagged and wouldn’t release. I managed to get a spanner in carefully and undo the two bolts holding the latch on. Once the tension was released i managed to release it.

Trying to figure how I can get it to fit straight into the hole with ease. It’s aligned. Maybe can place some washers under to lock and raise one side ?

Will take a good look tomorrow, will check the cable tension again but it’s pretty tight tbh.

If you are talking about the conical bolt. They bend really easily with a large adjustable spanner!
The method I use to get them to align is to first ensure that you are getting full travel with the release, (4mm drill bit in the hole of the catch push the catch to the open position so the drill bit holds the catch), then adjust the cable to take out the free play. Remove drill bit.
Cover the catch hole with masking tape and put a dab of grease on the conical bolt and gently lower the bonnet so the bolt touches the masking tape. Is the grease in the middle of the hole? Adjust the catch until it does.
I normally leave the bolt long when doing all this as it’s easier to jiggle it open if it gets latched by accident.
When adjusting the length of the bolt its better to have the bolt long and the bonnet loose on the catch than to tight otherwise you will constantly popping open.

Hello guys. Finally back on the car again. I’ve got the catch almost in the correct place but still haven’t glued the new bonnet seal in place.

Any tips how you get it to look good without making a mess

Do I tape it in place etc?

I don’t normally glue them in. They should be a friction fit around the scuttle around the wings. A bit of double sided trim tape on the ends if required. That means I can take them out and check/clean the channels.
The bit across the front I use trim tape also.
