Hi everyone, I'm trying to source a replacement part shown in the picture in white. Its a 1969e 2.0 engine and I think its the airduct for the oil cooler. As you can see its broken and seems to have been repaired a few times already. I can't seem to find it so if anyone could help me that would be much appreciated.

it has not been damage, at some time the oil cooler has had a leak and there are 2 ways to replace it, cut the cover (as you have) and replace or remove the intake and fan/housing/engine cover to re-place.

you may get away with the later SC/3.2 cover which is short and with some cutting to match of the part you have there,

Hey Mike, thanks for the info. Makes sense, I would have thought just drilling the rivets would have been a better way. I'm trying to source just the white part of the duct as a separate item. Now the engines out I might as well replace it. Is this something that's available?

Also I've just noticed these 3 bolts (in the next image) are cut off/ground down? Again I've been looking on the parts diagrams and I can't find them? Any ideas on these please?

Your engine was originally fitted with mfi - the bolts you mention - one circled in the picture below - are somebody's (crude) method of blanking off the injector ports in the heads (the same will have been done on the opposite side of the engine) ...

Whilst the engine is out it might be a good time to fix these bolts and the air ducting.

Mike might have an 'off the shelf' solution - in the (long distant !) past I think I used some allen head cap screws.

Thread size is M12 x 1.5 & the threaded section on an mfi injector is ~ 14mm

The problem you might have is getting the existing bolts out ...

You probably arent bothered but for others reference a 1969 engine cover would not have had this air duct originally, this was added from 1970 I believe, your cover is a later replacement, my 1969S cover is flat in this area. Yours should be like this ebay item. They are also missing the hole in the shroud for adjusting the MFI pump through the fan.

Thanks for the info. So I have a 1969 2.0 E engine that currently has triple Webbers and this ducting and actually should have MFI and no duct?

So at some point in its life someone made these changes

But I am where I am so I assume the duct is there to cool the oil so I really should replace it if possible?

will have a look and see if I have a early one, I have a SC bit that should cover it and will then be removable, I also have blanking plugs for the injector holes if needed

I have a 1970 (could be 71) T engine with, I think, an earlier non ducted cover, just out of interest why was the extra duct added?

The 2.2 T/E/S fan shrouds had the separate light grey riveted-on air duct for the oil cooler - as shown (damaged) in the original post.

As for why the duct was added, I think it was that, as the engines grew in capacity/power output (hence potentially generating more heat) Porsche wanted to increase the air flow to the oil cooler.

Hi Andy, if mine is a 2.0 E then it should not have the extra duct then? It should just be the shroud shown in Mikes photo? Why would mine have the shroud... is this someone getting extra air to the oil cooler? I'm just trying to understand if I need the extra duct or not?
