Seat Raisers

Post by domtoni »

Drove to Shelsely Walsh on Sunday, great day out. I realized that my seat is too low and I can't see the front all that well. Porsche made but seem to have discontinued two seat raisers. Has anyone had this issue and where can I find some to raise the seat a good 2,5 cm or 1 inch?

Thanks

have more foam installed in the seat base?
Will bring you close to the steering wheel mind.

Would simple aluminium blocks under the runners do the trick?

Thanks guys. I am fine with the driving position, just the seat needs to be higher.

Porsche solution was option m407/408 which raised seat by 0.8”. In 1972 it was a £5 option on Porsche GB price list. They were blocks not foam etc

There were risers 911.521.493.02 but think this part was later than pre 74; perhaps mid 80s? I vaguely recall helping my much missed diminutive late pal Chris Turner fit a pair perhaps to his own Carrera? So need to be sure compatible with your year and seat especially in impact need to be secure obviously. Even in the mid 70s Porsche factory were revising the seat rails as they were failing the crash test so an area of constant evolution for safety etc

The ones I recall were pair of bars with various holes to mount; flat top but shaped under. Part number was in casting in scalloped area. Check this number in online parts book or google to see examples as these might come up for sale. Pretty sure earlier 0.8 inch M-option I referred to in prior post were different shape to this later form.

Guys, just saw this now. Don't think I ever got a notice via email. Was out at a car show at the Bodenham Arboretium on Sunday with a mate who has a 1973 911T. And again, I sit too low in the car. I spoke to my friend Cesere at Deser in Italy and he doesn't have anything. Sounds like I have to get someone to make some alu bits to put under the seat rail on the floor. Now to find someone to do this, but thanks for all of your help.

Hello Dom,
saw a pic of the two cars from Sunday's show. Some friends were showing there.
Was that Matt's black 911?

To the low seat issue.

I have some aluminium block that will raise the driver's seat 25mm and some high tensile bolts to go through the seat runner and to the seat chassis rail. (2 bolts per corner)

I can get the measurements off my 73T seat rails.
Each seat corner will use the factory shallow head allen screw positions but will be 10mm hex head bolts.

Not sure if the 25mm raise will be enough, but at times it is surprising what such a rise in position will feel like. Too much and the stock dia steering wheel can land in your lap!

I live in Wombourne so rather close to you, 1/4 mile from Matts.

I'm happy to make the 4 blocks, 25mm high and 40 x 20 section to sit on the factory positions and post or you collect when done for a donation at your discretion to the DDK charity.

These will not be 'tool room' quality but I would use them on my car.

I can make these next week, competing at Shelsley Walsh this weekend and Loton the following weekend, and my 911 is getting some intense TLC on it's brakes, a bit busy this week.

Let me know what you want to do.
Graham.

Hi Graham,

Sounds perfect, why don't I come by some day and you can take a look at the set up and we can decide what to do from there. However, I am off to Italy later today for 3 wks to see an aunt who turned 101 a month ago today.

The black 911 is owned by a friend, Mark, who lives in Iron Bridge. Met him at the Ferrari Owners Club.

We met some years back when I was looking at different wheels for my car. Can't remember how many years back it was but ????

Will contact you when I am back and happy to make a donation to the DDK charity.

Sounds good Dom.
Contact me when you are ready.
If you bring the car round we can space the seat up temporarily with spacers so you can get a feel or the hight change.
I’ll keep the alum and bolts to one side for later.
Regards, Graham.

Have a good holiday!

I have a drivers side (LHD car) De'ser double lock tilting base for an early 911 sport seat. The tilting based is around 3cm higher than the fixed based. I switched the tilting base for a fixed one as the tilting base was too high for me. I installed it, then removed it, so effectively brand new.

I also have a full set of De'ser double lock tilting base for an early 911 sport seat to fit a post 73 car as the seat brackets are narrower on a post 73 car. These came with the De'ser sport seats, but I haven't used them as my car is a 70.

Let me know if these are of interest.

I rang my old pal Cesere at Deser the other day, and we discussed it. He didn't comment one way or the other on seat raisers. He is more interested in selling seats.
