180mph Speedometer help

Post by taribo »

I have a 1974 911 2.7, and it came with a 180mph speedometer. I do not think that it is the original unit, but it matches all of the other old dials on the dashboard. I have never seen one before, can anyone offer any advice as to what model car came equipped with a 180mph speedo. Other 911's seem to have speedos calibrated up to 150mph, this speedo is exactly the same to this point (approx 4pm) but it carries on to 180mph in the 6pm position. Any one know anything????

If it's the earlier version with the silver 'button' in the centre (the pivot point for the needle) these were fitted to the later (Mar '73-on) 2.7 Carrera RS. If it's the later style gauge with the black centre these were fitted to the '74-'76 2.7 Euro (mfi) Carreras.

Thankyou very much for your reply. I have the black centre kind.
I will do some research as to whether my car is a 74 carrera.
Thanks

If it's a '74 2.7 Euro Carrera the VIN will be in the form:

911 460 XXXX (1974 - Coupe)
911 461 XXXX (1974 - Targa)

That's a US spec (175bhp) '74 Targa.

I cant believe how knowledgable you are.

This car used to a LHD car, so that ties that loose end up nicely too!
