DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

This is my front rh indicator unit. It's the original and has suffered as you can see.

I'm wondering if anyone has attempted a similar repair / reconstruction of the area that's eroded.
The other unit is serviceable and ideally I'd like to try and save this unit to keep it original to the car.
Your help and options are appreciated.

It's fooked! Replace it or get busy with the fibre glass and silver spray paint.

What Nige said. If it was the wing I'd understand the desire for originality, but it's the back of a light unit. Replace!

I've done it before, a combination of fabricating sheet alloy repair pieces , JB Weld and dremel action. Multiple passes over a few days allowing the JB weld to set before sanding.......... I wouldn't do it again though.

Yes, been there 3 times also over the years.

New parts used to be really expensive, maybe different now, and once I saw some made in fibreglass, but still expensive.

Thin alum sheet, 1/8" pop rivits, lots of patience.
Seal only when you are SURE you have good reliable earths!

Seal with all the potions you know about already, but good old araldite is my favorite. Spray silver outside, maybe white for good refection inside.

All this needs to be externally accurate as the letter place hole in the wing is not generous in size.

Since I put up the post I've cut a flat piece to run along the side and the thought was to graft fibreglass on to it this bonding it altogether. I'm going to continue with it for now with the view that I'll fully accept having to replace if it doesn't work out. The front profile fits very well and that was my only driver for attempting a repair. I'll post up results in the next few days for anyone who might be in the same position.

I daresay if that was irreplaceable, it'd be a prime candidate for scanning and 3d printing a repair section for. If you've got a pal with a 3d printer - and it feels like I've got a few nowadays - then it could be an interesting wee project.

Just remembered the reason I repaired mine was that that quality of the dansk replacement ones I got was truly awful. They may have improved now but the casting on mine was really thin and brittle and they just kept cracking and falling apart.

I've got the plastic ones in mine, not a great fit but you can't tell externally. They don't rust and are cost effect.

JB weld worked well on one of mine but the hole was a lot smaller than this.

small holes can be fixed with epoxy, as many people have done, but that one will need more work that its worth I think....

mine were both like this, I attempted repair at first but it was just too far gone. The repro ones look crap quality but original used Euro ones seem impossible to find. I searched for months for one and eventually found one on U.S. eBay. Strangely SWB ones seem much more common , i assume they are made out of better material and last longer.

SWB lights are boxed into the body/wing so don’t get the weather and road rash as much.
The US lights can be converted to euro spec quite easily

So far with some aluminium, JB Weld and a dab of super glue, it's coming together and I will apply fibreglass over each side.
