What’s this hole for?
Hello guys,
Does anyone know what this hole is used or and why a plate would be used to cover it?
Just above my Vin number?

Re: What’s this hole for?
Yes I thought that.
I wouldn’t think it’s retro fit air con as that would just run through the dash until the scuttle?
I was wondering if some kind of pipe for retrofit oil cooler. The car came from South Africa so wouldn’t have a fuel heater ?
Who knows guess will never find out. Thanks

.
There are Factory holes in this area - can't remember their purpose - but they're usually blanked off with plastic inserts not welded plates:

As Andy says, on lhd got the 3 open holes … 2 of which go into the smugglers box.
Andy , if remember what they’re for I’d be interested as I’ve not really thought about them much in the past either

Re: What’s this hole for?
Odd hole, not factory i think, but the patch is spot welded excessively to seal it off.
Not easy to get to that area with spot welding arms, so a job done at the factory?

Re: What’s this hole for?
Thank you
It’s certainly a weird one. I’m unsure if I hide it or leave it shown as a relic of the past.

Re: What’s this hole for?
I have asked for a picture underneath of the car to see what it looks like.

Re: What’s this hole for?
Personally, I like leaving these 'bits' around an old car, all part of it's story.

What’s this hole for?
Yes I think I’m going to do that thanks.
I personally think it was factory as all the original texture was on the inside of the front area. But 50 odd years of changes, who knows?

Re: What’s this hole for?
Here is a better picture of it. There is no way of getting to the other side ?
Haven’t a clue what it could be.

Re: What’s this hole for?
I’m no expert, but shouldn’t that VIN have stars or asterisks either end? I know they changed the style in 1971 but I thought they all had either stars or asterisks still…
