Hello Porsche lovers and restorers,

So I'm currently restoring a 1967 SWB 912, while cutting out the floor around the tunnel I managed to slice through the wiring loom. I know, I know what a TWAT...
Anyway, so I am now about to tack in the new floor pans, but I'm being held up by the need to fix the wiring loom. After careful consideration and the astronomical cost of a new loom. I decided to remake the central 1.2m of the loom. I have traced all the wires and Now, my question is has anyone already done this sort of repair and could you help clarify the various multicore, single core, 5amp, 8amp, 12amp, 17amp wiring to use? I appreciate this is a big ask...but I'm out of ideas at this point.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated before the inevitable call to the auto electrician.

Hi Chris,
You could repair what you have or just make a new central loom. I would recommend the latter. You will need to remove the old one, measure the size of each strand with a micrometer/callipers and count the number of strands. This will give you the cross sectional area of each wire. Order replacement wire and pvc tubing online eg Vehicle Wiring Products. You may need connectors for the ends or you can reuse what the ones you have already (carefully open up the crimping, remove and thoroughly clean each connector). Sometimes it is easier to buy new connectors but some are NLA so you have to reuse what you have.
