New Member Central Scotland

Post by mac911 »

Hi DDK Petrolheads,
A new member here but unfortunately not in years.
I've owned a 1989 Carrera Sport 3.2 for almost 25 of its 35 years. To date, thankfully no serious mechanical issues, although it's about to have serious surgery in the rectum area (exhaust bits). A number of years ago, although looking pristine, (yes, I now know) it underwent major orthopaedic and cosmetic surgery ... beyond the Botox ... following which my wallet was also severely anaesthetised.
What is it about these cars that prevents you from feeling angry with them when you have had to sell a kidney to keep them alive and kicking? It must be the smell, sound, feel of something much more than a mash-up of mechanical parts.
I've noticed on the Forum that sharing experiences and contacts is encouraged ... great. I have also noticed previous references from members to a top Independent specialist in the Central Scotland region... Motortune Shotts Porsche Centre/Peter McAnna. In my experience over 25 years, his knowledge, problem solving and very competitive rates are simply outstanding ... a real family business with a heart.
I look forward to participating in the Forum's activities ... and promise to bin the clinical metaphors before Bootsy and the adjudicators cut me off at the sensitive bits ...

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Hopefully pics in a few weeks when the car returns from exhaust repair/replacement work. I didn't mention the 'cabin full of exhaust fumes' bit ... for another day perhaps.

Hi Brendan + Rich,
So, Brendan ... you escaped Kirkie for the urban sophistication of Glasgow's West End ... any regrets leaving behind some good driving roads out in the sticks?
Rich ... I've recently tried to imagine life without an air-cooled relic ... Do you have withdrawal symptoms or has the treatment worked out well ...?
Both take care out there.

Hi Raymond/Boydyrs,
It seems we have a small group of Porsche addicts up here in the Tartan Territories. You seem to have a mega project(s) on the go ... exciting times ahead.
Perhaps some of us have unknowingly mingled at previous events, like the Autumn "Porsche in the Glen" get-together in East Kilbride or at Bo'ness hillclimb?
I worked in your home patch of Stirling (Royal Burgh of ..) in the early/mid seventies ... happy days.
Regards meantime,
Mac

Hi Mac,

If you've been to Bo'ness you will have probably seen me in my burgundy 911T, although it's 2019 since I last raced. And I don't think I've missed a PITG, but usually in a Boxster. Margaret (kitten1) races the silver 911T at Bo'ness and she's in Rutherglen.
