Who dares wins, Rodney. Or something. All very smug at the moment, it can't last. I do think it fits the brief, though, so the fundamentals are promising.

That interior is stunning, and wow, manual to boot.

Who'd have thought 5 litres gives you plenty of torque.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Fair point. Torque is sufficient, I would say.

Yip - 25mpg with sensible use ... that can go up to high twenties on a longer run. Then there's the "opposite".....

For Rally use (calculating range - eg fuel needed for a loop of stages) , I used 25 mpg for road sections , and 5 mpg for hard use .... that was 5 !! I reckoned possibly closer to 4.5 when at 10 / 10ths. Depending on what final drive ratio you have , theoretical speed at max revs in 5th , is probably closer to 190 mph than 170 ..... defn an overdrive. I think we saw an indicated 145mph on a downhill section on the Isle of Man one year ..... we reckoned if we had "gone off" , it might have taken about a week for them to find us !

Lovely car(s) - much underrated .... lovely engineering in them , and would you believe, the bare shell is lighter than a SWB 911 ??? (my weighing , have not seen / found official figures)
Royal Enfield .. still in India
GL 1800 Tour DCT, for pleasure / Fantic 240 Professional - play
Rally 911 (1966) build parked for a while
Rally 928 (work started again - inc serious weight loss programe !)
.... and now another VW Up GTI owner.

Excellent stuff! Thanks for that, love the shell weight trivia. To add to my growing list of fascinating 928-based conversation starters.

Mine is fitting its brief rather well. End of last week it was out and about in SE1, then on Friday night proved exactly the right car for a little trip to Paris for the Retromobile show.
Early start on Monday morning, Peripherique was suitably fluide at 5am, happy days.
I'm liking it.
