Hello , i will tell you a bit about me and the car to start with its an ex Arizona car that i suspect spent time in LA area too, my name is Matt Gill , hopefully you will subliminally know the name from my banner on here . I run a restoration shop that has started off doing Volkswagens and has made the natural shift towards Porsches, although i do many different vehicles also . I have had a few Porsches over the years ranging from a 356a to a 964. Although i have restored Porsches for other people this is actually my first go at restoring any of the cars i have owned.
The original plan was to repair the outer panels and run it ratty on American Eagle daisy wheels that i had acquired for the build, i tried the wheels on then decided i was going to try and find the original paint under the repaint. I will leave it at this till the next instalment . Bear in mind this was 3 years ago i started i have gotta drag it out a bit haha

The car sat here for a while till there was room at work . I then began the teardown to assess the true condition of the car

I do farm out paintwork and mechanics as a business to trusted traders I have used for years , I do their welding and they do my mechanics or paint . As a one man band its the only way really I can operate. Me and my best mate pretty much have done and will be doing all of this car though. With the help of my network . My main capabilities are welding, I can pretty much do anything on a car but I try not to spread myself too thin as a business . It is funny you should mention it though as some companies do nothing apart from marketing these days I am not one of those , quite the opposite haha. It is one of my bugbears one stop shops that are just office staff. I am quite open about using other people and you deal with them direct.
Sorry for going off topic haha and rant over

After the teardown procedure it was apparent that the notion of a patina car had slipped away from me. The car needed more work than I had hoped and the decision was made to restore the car more than I had planned. It needed wings, bonnet, doors, outer sills and a new rear quarter, due to rust and poor previous crash repairs. Not the end of the world by any means but the plans changed . So whilst it was at work I set to it in my spare time. As you can see in the pics the workshop was chaos at that time with 3 or 4 of us working there then before i went back to being on my own.
