I have been running an Accusump in my 914 for the last two years and swear by them - a very effective way to maintain oil pressure and save bearings if you track a car that doesn't have a dry-sump oil system (356, 912, 914/4 etc). However, trying to explain in detail how one works isn't that easy. Just came across this post which explains all... Enjoy (or fall asleep - your choice!). Oh, and Happy New Year.

Interesting article.
Always wondered just how long a full system would last, 5 seconds on a hill climb engine after the light comes on would give lots of time to kill the engine and no harm done. See lots of them on hillclimb engines.
Thanks for posting.
Happy new year to you too.

The Accusump is primarily used to overcome the effects of oil surge. As you suggest, it would give you a few seconds of relief if the oil pump failed, but only when the oil light came on would you be aware of the failure, by which time the Accusump would be empty…
However, you could add a warning light to tell you when the Accusump solenoid had opened - if it stayed on for more than a second or two, showing major pressure loss, then you could have time to kill the engine and save the bearings.

That was my thinking, an early warning the system was delivering.
