Bosch MFI fuel pump

Post by matteo68 »

I need an NOS (or used but working & non-leaking original) Bosch MFI fuel pump (part # 901.608.105.00 /.01 / .04, Bosch part # 058097 0001).

Please PM me if you have one.

Hi Matt, in my experience they often leak as when they dry out the O rings shrink. Have you tried running the leaking pump to make sure its full of petrol then leaving it for a few days to let the O rings swell. Ive done this twice on my MFI pump and its worked each time.

Hi John

I need two pumps (E/S type) for my ST project. I’ve found one in Belgium needing refurbishment and need one more. The one in my donor T isn’t suitable as it had a CIS injection when we received it.

Matt,
Refurbishing pumps is very much a hit and miss affair. Whilst seals and O rings are available it is the commutator that gets worn and can not be repaired rendering the pump useless. Unfortunately, you will only discover its condition by opening up the pump. Once seals are renewed there is no guarantee it will not leak. A friend of mine in France had serious fire damage to his ST replica when leaking pump met faulty electrics. Good luck.

Thanks Kirk. That’s why I’d really prefer 2 NOS pumps but they probably don’t exist…

Angus doesn’t rate them - made in China apparently

I purchased a new MFI pump for my E recently that has Made in Germany on it.

I have 2 leaky MFI pumps that I was going to sell or send off.

Reading JohnM post above made me think that one of the pumps, did I need to replace it as the car had not been started for some time. We were doing some checks before a 500 mile road trip and noticed a leak then on start up.

The 1st lot several years ago...Yes. Not now though Made in Germany and they have a 3 or 5 year warranty from Porsche. NOS will be as dry as a Nuns private parts.😊

My mistake, thought you had a leaky one. Hope you find one Matt.

Thanks Dave. I’ll probably go with a pair of those then.

The last one I purchased about 4 years ago was made in Germany. I was also told they were made in China. Worth checking out at an OPC.

You pay your money and take your choice. Both Dave and I have had two pumps each sent for restoration. One of mine looked nice but would not provide enough flow / pressure for MFI. The other was fine. Neither pump cost anything to purchase initially. Ideally before purchasing a used pump it needs to be run to see if it can provide enough pressure otherwise you could be buying a nice ornament. I have had no issue with my new pump. Dave also purchased a new pump with no issues. At least if you buy a new pump and it fails early on you can take it back to the OPC you purchased it from. Perhaps Angus can guarantee a used pump can be refurbished successfully and / or a refurbished one runs reliably.
