With a history as a qualified automotive engineer spanning over 30 years, Mike has worked on the design, development and production of many of the world’s most prestigious vehicles and engine derivatives.
From an initial apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic, fabricator and paint technician, Mike progressed through the ranks to a post-graduate career in road car and F1 engineering, developing powertrain and chassis installations for Tom Walkinshaw Racing and Jaguar Land Rover.
Then followed several years in engine design for Cosworth and Aston Martin, developing their V12 and twin turbo engines.
Mike has continued to consult within the industry throughout his career, on tasks ranging from engine and chassis design, through to vehicle development and whole vehicle testing. Throughout the time in industry, Porsches always played an essential part, as benchmark vehicles for competitor and technology references, and with air-cooled cars specifically, as in-house rebuilds, restoration projects, race cars and daily-drivers.
As the Porsche connections and associations grew, alongside came the experience and expertise. The detailed hands-on rebuilding and restoration activity would give frequent opportunities to explore the technology and assembly techniques of the era, and a unique understanding of how they developed throughout the evolution of the marque.
Once full workshop facilities were established, Mike was able to offer these services to other customers and enthusiasts around the world. With modern technological, economic, environmental and consumer pressures, cars are just not made like this anymore, and Mike has always believed in the need to preserve these vehicles as reminders of the technology of the era and the raw, connected driving experience that they offer, with the attention to detail and the passion for engineering excellence that Porsche has always demanded.
The early apprenticeships in bodyshops, fabrication and machine shops, coupled with a first-class honours degree in automotive engineering and the subsequent extensive professional industry experience, has all enabled Mike to specialise in every key area that benefits from classic Porsche expertise. When a car comes in to MCE, Mike conducts all aspects of the build personally, so the customer is assured that they are dealing first-hand with top-level industry craftmanship and all the necessary specific skills required on a project, from routine servicing to full restorations.
