So we're now 20 years old here at DDK!

Of course this is all down to members and our valued supporters.

This time of year I approach your supporters to see if they'll kindly continue their support for 2024.

Restoration Design Europe

Run by Porsche Enthusiasts, Just Like You!

Restoration Design Europe began when our Marcel Tromp was in the process of restoring a 1972 Porsche 911T in the Netherlands. He needed specific panel parts and found Restoration Design Inc., located in Canada. Marcel got in contact with RDI with an interest in pursuing the option of importing parts to the European Union. He saw a market in Europe that desperately wanted the quality replacement parts manufactured in North America, but at a reasonable price and with local shipping times.

After exchanging some ideas about with Restoration Design, owner Mike de Jonge visited the Netherlands to confirm the viability of the business. Established in June 2013, Restoration Design Europe has been the sole distributor of parts for Europe.

Long time supporter Max and team over at Revival Cars

Image

http://revival-cars.com

'Home of the 912

Revival Cars, specialists in all things ’12. Four pots good, six pots bad! We’re not quite that bad, but here at Revival we are truly passionate about the 912.

Established in 1999 by commercial pilot and classic Porsche enthusiast Max Levell, Revival has been at the forefront of 912 servicing & sales since its inception.

Sparked by the purchase of his first 912 in 1997, a general interest in all things classic Porsche rapidly became a specialist interest in all things 912 – Two wings made may for four wheels, pressed steel of course, and the rest as they say is history.

Over the years we’ve learnt a lot about the model, its unique and qwerky design features, even its heater. And whilst the humble ’12 remains comparatively unknown, recent years have also seen a change of fortune for the model – A gentle but relentless transition from underdog to cult classic with a fanbase to match.

Today Revival occupies two workshops opposite London Heathrow airport terminal 5.'

And another....

Mike over at MCE who will have seen plenty about in recent Porsche press.

Image

https://mceporsche.com

With a history as a qualified automotive engineer spanning over 30 years, Mike has worked on the design, development and production of many of the world’s most prestigious vehicles and engine derivatives.

From an initial apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic, fabricator and paint technician, Mike progressed through the ranks to a post-graduate career in road car and F1 engineering, developing powertrain and chassis installations for Tom Walkinshaw Racing and Jaguar Land Rover.

Then followed several years in engine design for Cosworth and Aston Martin, developing their V12 and twin turbo engines.

Mike has continued to consult within the industry throughout his career, on tasks ranging from engine and chassis design, through to vehicle development and whole vehicle testing. Throughout the time in industry, Porsches always played an essential part, as benchmark vehicles for competitor and technology references, and with air-cooled cars specifically, as in-house rebuilds, restoration projects, race cars and daily-drivers.

As the Porsche connections and associations grew, alongside came the experience and expertise. The detailed hands-on rebuilding and restoration activity would give frequent opportunities to explore the technology and assembly techniques of the era, and a unique understanding of how they developed throughout the evolution of the marque.

Once full workshop facilities were established, Mike was able to offer these services to other customers and enthusiasts around the world. With modern technological, economic, environmental and consumer pressures, cars are just not made like this anymore, and Mike has always believed in the need to preserve these vehicles as reminders of the technology of the era and the raw, connected driving experience that they offer, with the attention to detail and the passion for engineering excellence that Porsche has always demanded.

The early apprenticeships in bodyshops, fabrication and machine shops, coupled with a first-class honours degree in automotive engineering and the subsequent extensive professional industry experience, has all enabled Mike to specialise in every key area that benefits from classic Porsche expertise. When a car comes in to MCE, Mike conducts all aspects of the build personally, so the customer is assured that they are dealing first-hand with top-level industry craftmanship and all the necessary specific skills required on a project, from routine servicing to full restorations.

As we enter 2024 here's our next supporter for the year....

Image

https://www.paul-stephens.com

BORN FROM OBSESSION

The story of Paul Stephens (the brand) is really the story of Paul Stephens (the individual). It’s a story of passion, determination and obsession, a story that any successful person can appreciate. His obsession for competing and winning, and an unfailing desire to only offer his customers the best, have shaped a business with a deserved reputation for unwavering quality. From its focused beginnings as a specialist car company, Paul Stephens has grown into a respected brand designed for those who live their lives at the same pace as the man himself.

THE HISTORY OF PAUL STEPHENS

Paul Stephens bring the same level of passion, commitment and quest for perfection to everything they do and this has allowed the company to develop into what it is today - a respected brand that strikes a chord with anyone who shares Paul’s dedication to success. From our bespoke builds, through selected original model sales to our high-end design collections, a consistent energy underlines all that we do.

Paul Stephens has petrol in his veins and the 911 in his heart. Having learnt to drive at the age of six, he had his first drive in a 911 at nine, reaching 100mph on a disused airfield. By 21 he had acquired his first 911, a 2.4E, which is a version he still owns today. Paul started his own business nearly 25 years ago, specialising in sportscars and in particular Porsche - a business fuelled by a passion and enthusiasm for cars.

HISTORIC RACING

Paul Stephens learned to drive at the age of six, had his first accident at the age of seven, and clocked his first 100mph run, in a 911, when he was just nine! He went on to race in Caterham, Marcos, Chevron and 911s winning two championships along with several class and overall race wins, before retiring from racing (so he thought) in 2003.

A decade later, he returned to the track at the Spa Classic in a 911ST, finishing third in class, competed in the Silverstone 24 Hours in 2015, again finishing third in class and competed in the Le Mans Classic in 2016, finishing twenty third overall and the third 911 home in Plateau 4.

It's always good to keep abreast with new innovations over at Classic Retrofit. Jonny and his team are making waves and many members (myself included) use their ever growing range of parts.

Image

https://www.classicretrofit.com

Incorporated as a UK limited company in 2015, Classic Retrofit was actually established several years before this, when company founder, Jonny Hart, swapped his daily driver Mercedes 280 SLC for a classic Porsche 911 SC in need of restoration.

At that time, Jonny was the MD of an electronics design consultancy within the defence and medical industries, and was looking for a new challenge. His first project on the classic Porsche 911 was an upgraded CDI ignition unit in the original style, but with modern electronics inside. This unique mappable twin-spark ignition was CE approved and proved a successful product, with hundreds now in use around the world.

The CDI ignition unit was followed by an upgraded plug-and-play replacement fuse panel using modern blade fuses and with several innovations including integrated headlamp relays and blown fuse LED indicators. This again sold very well and has seen many imitations! The original panel remains the best and over 1,000 units have now been fitted successfully.

The real breakthrough for Classic Retrofit came when Jonny developed his exceptional electric air conditioning for classic cars, transforming the experience of driving a classic car all year round in any sort of weather. The system - along with the recommended upgraded high-powered alternator - has been incredibly successful and is used to great results by both DIY mechanics and professional car builders and OEMs in the world's most challenging climates.

Now employing 5 people and shipping its products worldwide from its East Sussex headquarters, Classic Retrofit has an enviable reputation within the classic car world. The core products have been complimented by a compact all-in-one air conditioning system for race cars and more, and Jonny and the team now consult and design complete HVAC systems for classic cars including full carbon or aluminium recreations by bespoke constructors, and for classic EV projects.

We also regularly consult with startups and established OEMs (details are limited due to non-disclosure agreements) including EV, supercar and racing car projects.

We are always happy to discuss our work and our product design capabilities. Contact us with your development enquiries!

Another long term supporter for 2024...

Image

https://www.kroonwireharnesses.com

Specialized in classic Porsche

Kroon Wire Harnesses
All our wire harnesses are assembled to original OEM specifications to ensure a perfect fit in your classic car. All wires, and lengths are exactly, or almost like stock original down to the last detail. The harness you receive will fit and function 100% like the original.

We are specialized in classic Porsche’s but will do other carbrands on request, also smaller wirelooms and custom wiring is possible, please contact us for more info. Some of our harnesses require that you supply us with a donor harness. We will use one or more of the components to manufacture your new one. On request we can also deliver these original connectors.

The reason for requiring a donor harness is that some of the unique components required to manufacture a new harness are no longer available, or no longer beeing reproduced. We use all brand new wire, tape and a majority of new terminals and connectors.
