Beginning the Worse Than Expected section we have some local rot.

In the luggage compartment, just behind the RH wheel arch. Presumably standing water due to missing scuttle tray or other leak was the root cause here:



Rear bulkhead. Leaky rear screen and wet carpets -> rot from the inside out? Something like that anyway.

Great project, good to see some hands-on action too.
Rot so far looks all easy to fix. Will you let new panels in locally or change the whole panel such as the above?

Yep.
In all cases, repairs will be as small as possible (keep as much original metal as possible).

In some cases it will make sense to start from a repair panel, but that doesn't mean it's compulsory to use all of it! For example the LH tank support, where it looks like we only need a bit at the front.

I don't know what's easier. Barry makes it all look easy...

On that subject, I've been pricing up a few panels and looking back at the spreadsheet from last time. There would appear to have been some pretty rampant price inflation (and the genuine Porsche panels weren't exactly cheap when I did the previous resto). I guess in some cases that will skew the economics toward starting with a flat bit of metal.

Good decision to dip Richard….at least it is now in the safest hands it could be…..

Not so sure. Might end up solar or Austin 7 powered.

Thanks JP, yes, good call. Saw your beast yesterday, of course. I am a bit in love with the front end shape and the aesthetic tweaks. It's going to be quite a thing!

Apparently welding is not environmentally sound. Barry says wattle and daub is a more appropriate hole filling solution in this day and age. He's the expert, I'm sure it will be fine.

Overall, yes, very.
There are quite a few fiddly bits that will inevitably take time (hence money), but Barry is the man for the job, without doubt. They add up to a chunk of work but a small proportion of the shell, so when it's done the vast majority of the metal will be original. I like that.

I’m good thanks. Wishing I had a SWB car still (ideally one I can drive!). Yours sounds great, just wish you could speed up a bit.
