Hi well I was the chap who took the leap and bought this cool piece of history
She’s a full on bonfide 914/6
Was crashed during testing when two months old, was repaired by Porsche with a replacement body shell hence the reg at the time, was placed in storage till 1980 when the chap I purchased it from bought it for £550 he got it back on the road and mot,
Looks like he had exchange letters with Porsche until 1990 regarding its registration etc all letters are present. Has 29k from new every mot to back this up too.
A very cool car with a better history’s deserves to b returned to signal orange its original colour . Just had to give it a home

Is the chassis number of your car still shown as 9140430059?

Do you know when and by whom the RHD conversion was carried out?

The mots and logbook are all showing chassis no to be
91404300059
Engine no 640 0035

Will look and report back when it arrives at my shop on fri hopefully
It seems it spent nearly ten years with afn limited iselworth in storage sold to previous owner in 1982. He purchased the car minus logbook from Porsche
Rhd conversion was done by crayford and test by car and car conversions and auto car in 1970.
Correspondence with Porsche club states they were in talks with the chap called David Sutherland who was testing the car for Porsche post and was on loan to him when the accident happened.
All makes for interesting reading there lots of paperwork and magazine cut out to sift thru

This is the chassis plate of the car (DGU 914H) in Belgium – it, too, was returned to the original Signal Orange having been painted Light Ivory by Roger Bray while under restoration years ago. It'll be interesting to see if Porsche (or rather, AFN) removed the VIN plate and body numbers from your shell. Bet you can't wait to get stuck in! :bounce:

Cool it’s good to hear the history is piecing together
Either way my car exists and is part of that history regardless of the outcome of registrstion. I will try to make it as good as I can and will probaby sell it next year unless I get attached to it
It’s cool in its own right and digging the history up is part of the fun

I remember this car. and also David's car in Holland.
This car appeared at a 914 pub meet probably mid 80's, near Weybridge i'll see if I can find pictures of it.
As I recall the then owner told a similar story that he got the damaged shell from Porsche uk/ or AFN after it had been sat for years "out the back"
I don't recall it being RHD at the time.
I have looked through my copies of the 11 invoices for 914s converted by Crayford Engineering, that chassis number does not appear.
As far as I'm aware no 914/6 cars were converted by Crayford.
Looking at the photos the dash does not match either of mine, I have No1 and No 7.from Crayford.
It looks a great project but my concern would be the chassis number being on 2 different cars.

I seem to remember that when David's car was finished it's restoration by Roger Bray and Barrie Curtis there was a discussion about this red car but can't recall the outcome.

It may have well been converted by another company as there seem to be more RHD "Crayfords" about than they actually did.
I stand to be corrected if any of the above is bullshit.

Well least people are remembering the car.
To b honest it exists and frankly as was the thing in the 80s dvla jus gave everything a Q reg without any consideration for the facts.
The many letter that exist with the service history I have should help its case. Regardless it’s a genuine 914/6 and won’t matter if it’s sold abroad which it most likely will b when I sell it.
Already made inroads to getting it repainted the correct signal orange.
I’m guessing rhe chap u spoke to was the owner I purchased the car from. He’s owned it since 1980
I have every mot back to 1979/80
I don’t mind a challenge
