Rhd mirror on my lhd 914

Post by neilbardsley »

Driving around the UK I have noticed a blind spot over my right. I was thinking of adding right mirror? Has anyone done this? Does it help? I found a copy of the one I have is available

It's an easy job - just take off the door panel and you will discover underneath the top edge of the door where the mirror will go, two nuts welded in place. Use a long thin punch to poke up through the centre of each nut and, using a small hammer to tap the punch, make two dimples in the top of the door panel. From the outside, those dimples show where to drill carefully through the centre of each nut. Use some masking tape to stop the drill slipping. Start small and work your way up, finishing with a small round file – take care not to damage the threads in the nuts, though. A dab of paint will help stop rust. Now just screw the new mirror in place. It took me about 20 minutes to mount the mirror on my car - just make sure your drill is sharp.

New mirror added. Now I'm just trying to decide if to add some blind spot mirrors I bought. The car is almost ready for a drive to Italy. Road trip planned for end of the month.

Quick question… are the nuts welded on RH doors of all years? Sounds like a straightforward and helpful upgrade though.
