Wanted 915 Precision Shifter

Post by rattytat »

If anyone has a precision shifter for a 915 gearbox, that’s surplus to requirements please let me know, I’m after one…
I’m on the look out for a precision/ shorter throw shifter for a competition car with a 915 gearbox - Rennlist, Numeric Racing, Wevo, 'Karsten's improvement spring' all options considered and any thoughts on the better option welcome too.

Thanks

In my opinion that’s still the best option.
We’ve had one in our hillclimb car since the 80’s.

In my 33 years with my same 915/911 73T I've tried 5 different short shift kits/assemblies etc
The box has been rebuilt by Bob Watson and latterly MB Eng extensively.

In all the mods I found the actual accuracy of adjusting the lever position and the newness of all the bushes and box rear connector is critical for success.

In the end i ditched the lot and went back to the stock tall tower shifter, new bushes and UJ bushes and a good hour tweaking the exact position of all the parts to each other.
I am now satisfied, the box is great, the shift long, but always accurate.

Car was a hillclimb car alongside Jonathan's but now retired to weekends and nice day road driving. :)

These gear shift designs are quite sensitive to personal likings, everybody is different, and RHD v LHD also plays a part. (imho)

Hi Ian

I’m looking at, and open to all options at this point, but certainly the factory short shift kit is a strong option. Can you message me details please.

Thanks
