Longrancher (Rick) clearly has been robbed. I know he's a great guy as he's done a couple of favours for me with shipping parts to me when the sellers refused to ship to the UK.
Just buy Wayne's book (and factory manuals) and do it yourself.
No wonder why the likes of Darren, Ash and Streetwagen have suffered burn-outs.

If you have a reasonable idea about car mechanics, and some reasonable level of mechanical engineering, then a straight forward or mild modified air cooled 911 engine is within the DIY car nuts grasp.
The Demspey book is a masterpiece of clear instruction in logical good bit-sizes and beautifully produced.
I can DIY a 3.2 engine rebuild in my garage for about £1800, I would need specialist help to ream the valve guides, and this is with the Pistons and Barrels re-useable.
Most tedious part of the adventure is cleaning everything! Cleaning all the parts is a real time soaker and I would use a pro next time.
As soon as you start to modify things, the costs are nuts. I DIY built my 8,000 rpm 3.2 with just over 300 bhp for £10,000.
Most of the parts come from the USA and that is where the sting is.

Sounds like a lot of money (& a long time) but 'LongRanger' stated ... "And I couldn't be more pleased"
I haven't followed the story so don't know what the 'brief' was or exactly what was done but I know Marco (Gerace) & his is one of the best Porsche workshops in LA ...

There were no modifications during that rebuild at all. Everything stock.

Fair enough.

Just had a very quick look at some of the engine rebuild details &;
- throttle bodies were refurbished by Matt Blast at Eurometrix
- mfi pump was rebuilt by Gus Pfister at Pacific Fuel Injection
Both are the best in the business & consequently expensive ...

I haven’t read it but it sounds like it’s an engine and ancillaries rebuild then, which of course will increase the cost.
